Torbjörn, Thorbjörn, Torbjørn, or Thorbjørn (given name) are modern Swedish, Norwegian and Danish forms of the Old Norse and Icelandic name ''Þorbjörn'', meaning thunder (from the name Thor) and bear. Torben Oxe
Torben Oxe (died 29 November 1517) was a Danish nobleman and a member of an aristocratic family. Oxe was the son of Johan Oxe of Tordsø and Inger Torbensdatter Bille. Both his father and grandfather had served as Danish Councillors (''dansk rigsråd''). His nephew Peder Oxe, would become the future Danish finance minister and Steward of the Realm. Torben Oxe served as a liege man of King Christian II of Denmark, under whom from 1514, he was governor of Copenhagen Castle. He also inherited a fief in Kronborg from his father who died in 1490. During the summer of 1517, Torben Oxe was accused of murdering Dyveke Sigbritsdatter, King Christian II's mistress, with some poisoned cherries. Dyveke's mother Sigbrit Willoms, the widow of a Dutch merchant, acted as an advisor to the king, to the displeasure of much of the Danish nobility. Torbern Olaf (Olof) Bergman (''KVO'') (20 March 17358 July 1784) was a Swedish chemist and mineralogist noted for his 1775 ''Dissertation on Elective Attractions'', containing the largest chemical affinity tables ever published. Bergman was the first chemist to use the A, B, C, etc., system of notation for chemical species. Early life and education Torbern was born on 20 March 1735, the son of Barthold Bergman and Sara Hägg. He enrolled at the University of Uppsala at age 17. His father wished him to read either law or divinity, while he himself was anxious to study mathematics and natural science; in the effort to please both himself and his father, he overworked himself and harmed his health. During a period of enforced abstinence from study, he amused himself with field botany and entomology. Torben Schousboe
Torben Schousboe (October 6, 1937-December 9, 2017 Odense) was a Danish music researcher and writer. After completing organ studies in 1960, he graduated from Copenhagen University, where he taught from 1972 to 1996. He is known above all for his work on Carl Nielsen. In 1983 he published, in collaboration with Nielsen's daughter Irmelin Eggert Møller, the composer's diaries and correspondence with his wife Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen. Schousboe was organist and cantor in Copenhagen's Emdrup Church from its opening in 1961 until 1996. He taught at the University of Copenhagen's Musicology Institute, specializing in the history of music and music theory. Torben Piechnik
Torben Piechnik (born 21 May 1963) is a Danish former professional footballer who played as a centre back. He made a total of 15 appearances for the Denmark national team, which he represented in the 1992 European Championship and 1996 European Championship. Biography Born in Hellerup, Piechnik started his senior career with Kjøbenhavns Boldklub (KB) in the top-flight Danish 1st Division. He joined Ikast fS in 1988, and played two seasons for the club. In 1990, he joined B 1903, and in November 1991 he won his first Danish senior cap. He was part of the Denmark national team which won the UEFA Euro 1992. Torben Nielsen (born 7 December 1945) is a Danish former football player and manager. He was a defender, and played 26 games for the Denmark national football team. Born in Copenhagen, he started his career with B 1903 and made his debut for the Danish national team in May 1969. In 1972, he signed a professional contract with German club 1. FSV Mainz 05 in the Regionalliga Südwest league. As a professional, he missed participation with Denmark at the 1972 Summer Olympics, and played his last national team game in October 1972. In 1974, he moved to German 2nd Bundesliga South club FK Pirmasens, where he played 76 games and scored three goals as a midfielder until 1976. He ended his footballing career with Helsingborgs IF in Sweden. Torben Betts (born 10 February 1968, in Stamford, Lincolnshire) is an English playwright, screenwriter and actor. Betts attended the University of Liverpool, where he read English Literature and English Language, and originally trained to become an actor but later changed course to begin writing plays. Betts stated that part of the reason for this transition was the difficulty he faced as an actor without an agent and that playwriting allowed him to "exercise all my instincts as an actor without actually having to live the life". In 1999 Alan Ayckbourn invited him to be the resident dramatist at Scarborough's Stephen Joseph Theatre.
