Tor Øivind Ødegård
Tor Øivind Ødegård (born 28 February 1969) is a retired Norwegian middle distance runner who specialized in the 800 metres. He represented Fredrikstad IF and IF Minerva. He finished fourth at the 1995 IAAF World Indoor Championships. He also competed at the World Championships in 1997 and 1999 without reaching the finals. He became Norwegian champion in 1991 and 1994. His personal best time is 1:45.42 minutes, achieved in August 1997 in Athens. 800 Metres
The 800 metres, or meters ( US spelling), is a common track running event. It is the shortest commonly run middle-distance running event. The 800 metres is run over two laps of an outdoor (400-metre) track and has been an Olympic event since the first modern games in 1896. During the winter track season the event is usually run by completing four laps of an indoor 200-metre track. The event was derived from the imperial measurement of a half mile (880 yards), a traditional English racing distance. 800m is 4.67m less than a half mile. The event combines aerobic endurance with anaerobic conditioning and sprint speed, so the 800m athlete has to combine training for both. Runners in this event are occasionally fast enough to also compete in the 400 metres but more commonly have enough endurance to 'double up' in the 1500m. Fredrikstad Idrettsforening is a Norwegian athletics club from Fredrikstad, founded on 4 September 1896. As a stadium the club uses the Sentralidrettsanlegget in Lisleby, a borough of Fredrikstad. World Athletics Championships
The World Athletics Championships (until 2019 known as the World Championships in Athletics) are a biennial athletics competition organized by World Athletics (formerly IAAF, International Association of Athletics Federations). Alongside the Olympic Games, they represent the highest level championships of senior international outdoor athletics competition for track and field athletics globally, including marathon running and race walking. The 6th World Championships in Athletics, under the auspices of the International Amateur Athletic Federation, were held at the Olympic Stadium, Athens, Greece between August 1 and August 10, 1997. In this event participated 1882 athletes from 198 participant nations. Athens used the successful organization of the World Championships the next month during the IOC Session in Lausanne during its campaign to host the 2004 Summer Olympics as proof positive of Athens' and Greece's ability and readiness to organize large-scale, international sporting events. Vebjørn Rodal (born 16 September 1972) is a retired Norwegian middle distance athlete, who won the gold medal in the 800 m at the 1996 Summer Olympics with the time 1:42.58. Biography Rodal, born and raised in Berkåk, made his international senior debut in 1992, at the Barcelona Olympics, reaching the semi-finals in his event, the 800 m. Part of a group of successful Norwegian athletes, he won his first international medal only two years later, placing second at the 1994 European Championships . By finishing third in the final of the 1995 World Championships, he established himself as one of the top 800 m runners in the world, and was among the medal contenders for the 1996 Summer Olympics, held in Atlanta. He represented BFG Fana, SK Vidar, Bergen FIK, IL Gular and IL Norna-Salhus during his active career. He finished eighth at the 1994 European Championships. He also competed at the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics as well as the World Championships in 1993 and 1995 without reaching the finals.
