Tor Morisse
Tor Morisse (10 July 1947 – 17 May 2017) was a Norwegian illustrator, children's writer and comics creator. Morisse was raised in Oslo and was a brother of musician Bjørn Morisse. For many years he lived and worked in Sweden. He illustrated more than 300 books, especially children's books, by authors including Lennart Hellsing, Hans Pettersson, Bjørn Rønningen and Frid Ingulstad. His first drawings were published in ''Kamratposten'' during 1976. In 1986. he started his own publishing house. In 2002, he received the Publicistklubben's Gold Pen (''Årets Gullpenn''). Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. Bjørn Morisse
Bjørn Morisse (7 February 1944 – 27 July 2006) was a Norwegian musician, illustrator and comics creator. Personal life Morisse was born in Oslo and was a brother of Tor Morisse. Having spent part of his childhood in the United States, he was educated as illustrator. Bjorn was married to Aud Berggren - mother of his only son Andre born on April 23, 1966, he divorced Aud Berggren in 1972. He then married Penny Sugg (after their divorce she remarried and got Holtzem as surname) in 1974 until 1982. His son Andre lives and works in New York city. Bjørn died in Kristiansand in July 2006. Career In 1966 Morisse formed the musical duo The Young Norwegians along with Bjørn Falk Nilsen. They performed at the Dolphin Club in Oslo, and made their television debut in 1966. Lennart Hellsing
Paul Lennart Hellsing (5 June 1919 – 25 November 2015) was a Swedish writer and translator. For his lasting contribution as a children's writer, Hellsing was a finalist in 2010 for the biennial, international Hans Christian Andersen Award. Biography Born in Västanfors in Västmanland County, Sweden, he was the son of the merchant Paul Hellsing and Sigrid Hellsing, née Rohloff, whose mother was from the West Indies. He was a prolific writer of children's literature, particularly known for his rhymes and word plays. He is considered an "outstanding poet" in the field of humour and nonsense writing. In 1987, he received the Grand Prize from Samfundet De Nio. Hellsing was married to actress Yvonne Lombard from 1953 until his death. Hans Pettersson
Prof Hans Petterson FRSFor HFRSE RSAS (1888–1966) was a 20th century Swedish physicist and oceanographer. Early life Hans Petterson was born in Forshalla near Gothenburg on 26 August 1888, the son of the chemist and oceanographer Otto Pettersson (1848-1941). Hans Petterson studied Sciences at Uppsala University, graduating in 1909. He then studied atomic physics as a postgraduate at the Institute for Radium Research, Vienna. Career Petterson's first publication from 1910 was on the issue of radium. In 1913 he joined the staff of the Swedish Hydrographic-Biologocal Commission. In 1914 he began lecturing in Oceanography at Gothenburg University. He later brought this knowledge to the field of oceanography, and with the help of radium he could determine the age of sediment samples from the bottom of the sea. The Giant Who Had No Heart in His Body is a Norwegian fairy tale collected by Asbjørnsen and Moe. George MacDonald retold it as "The Giant's Heart" in ''Adela Cathcart''. A version of the tale also appears in '' A Book of Giants'' by Ruth Manning-Sanders. Synopsis A king had seven sons, and when the other six went off to find brides, he kept the youngest with him because he could not bear to be parted from them all. They were supposed to bring back a bride for him, as well, but they found a king with six daughters and wooed them, forgetting their brother. But when they returned, they passed too close to a giant's castle, and he turned them all, both princes and princesses, to stone in a fit of rage. Sproing Award
The Sproing Award is awarded by Norsk Tegneserieforum (NTF), an organisation to promote interest and understanding for comics in Norway. Since 1987, the award has been presented for the ''Best Norwegian Strips'', a comic strip or comic book by a Norwegian, and ''Best Translated Strips'', an international comic strip/comic book translated into Norwegian. Since 2003, there has also been awarded a Sproing for ''Best Comics Debut''. At NTF's annual meeting, a jury is selected which reads all publications of the year and choose five nominees for the national and international classes, and three nominees for the debut class. Initially, voting was exclusive to NTF members, but has been opened to the public in the 2000s.
