Topoli (village), Kharkiv Oblast
Topoli ( uk, Тополі; russian: Тополи, ) is a village in Kupiansk Raion, Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine, near the border with Russia. It was captured early in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces.See the detailed map. Geography Topoli is south-east of the river Oskil. It is 17 kilometers from Tavilzhanka, 21 kilometers from Dvorichna, 40 kilometers from Kivsharivka and 35 kilometers from Kupiansk. It was part of Dvorichna Raion until that was merged with Kupiansk Raion in 2020. A railway line runs north through the village and across the border to Urazovo in Russia. Since June 24, 2017, there has been a border service point named after the town , which was opened by Interior Minister Arsen Avakov and NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov. Arsen Borysovych Avakov hy, Արսեն Բորիսի Ավակով (born 2 January 1964) is a Ukrainian politician and businessman. From 2014 to 2021 he was Ukraine's Minister of Internal Affairs, first being appointed in the first cabinet of Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk. During the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the village was occupied by Russian troops during their initial advance into the nation. After the success of the 2022 Ukrainian eastern counteroffensive, the village became disputed territory on 22 September, and would remain that way for some time, with Ukrainian forces possibly taking control by 27 December, according to the Institute for the Study of War.
