Tony Macaulay (writer)
Tony Macaulay (born 23 July 1963) is a Northern Ireland author, leadership consultant, peace builder and broadcaster. Background Macaulay was born in Lisburn and grew up in the Upper Shankill area of West Belfast. He attended Belfast Royal Academy and in 1985 he graduated from the Ulster University. In 2019 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Ulster University for services to literature and peace building at home and abroad. In 2008 he published a discussion paper about Northern Ireland's peace walls. He runs a management consultancy specialising in “leadership, executive coaching, conflict resolution and social change". He is a regular contributor to Thought for the Day on BBC Radio Ulster. His fourth memoir ‘Little House on the Peace Line’ (2017) tells the story of how he lived and worked on the peace line in North Belfast in the 1980s. British Youth Music Theatre
British Youth Music Theatre (BYMT), formerly Youth Music Theatre UK, is a UK-based national performing arts organisation founded in December 2003. BYMT provides music theatre training to young people aged 11–21 and a stepping stone to drama school or conservatoire. Members can join either through auditions in January and February onto productions or, without audition, onto summer camps. Most of its productions and summer camps are residential and situated around the UK with productions taking place in both regional and London theatres. The company traded as Youth Music Theatre UK from its incorporation in 2003 until its 15th birthday on 4 December 2018 when it formally changed its legal name to British Youth Music Theatre. This coincided with moving its London office to the new Mountview building in Peckham, south east London. Duke Special
Duke Special (born Peter Wilson; 4 January 1971) is a songwriter and performer based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. A piano-based songwriter with a romantic style and a warm, distinctly accented voice, he was previously known for his distinctive long dreadlocks, eyeliner and outfits he describes as "hobo chic". Nowadays, he performs mostly out of makeup and desires to be more like his true self. His live performances have a theatrical style inspired by Vaudeville and music hall, and often incorporate 78s played on an old-fashioned gramophone, or sound effects from a transistor radio. He is most often accompanied by percussionist "Temperance Society" Chip Bailey, who plays cheese graters and egg whisks, a Stumpf fiddle and a Shruti box, as well as the more typical drums and cymbals. Steven Dexter
Steven Dexter (born August 26, 1962) is a theatre director and writer. Early life Dexter was born in South Africa, then he moved to London in 1984 and studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. West End productions In 2003 he directed both ''Peter Pan'' and ''The Pirates of Penzance'', playing in repertoire at the Savoy Theatre, London. His production of ''La Cava (musical), La Cava'' (book by Dana Broccoli, lyrics by John Claflin and Shaun McKenna, music by Laurence O'Keefe and Stephen Keeling) transferred from the Churchill Theatre, Bromley to the Victoria Palace Theatre, London, in 2000, transferring to the Piccadilly Theatre in 2001. Lyric Theatre, Belfast
The Lyric Theatre, or simply The Lyric, is the principal, full-time producing theatre in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The theatre's current Executive Producer is Jimmy Fay, previously the founder and Artistic Director of Bedrock Productions. History The theatre was first established as The Lyric Players in 1951 at the home of its founders Mary O'Malley and her husband Pearse in Derryvolgie Avenue, off the Malone Road, and moved to its new site on Ridgeway Street in 1968, between the Stranmillis Road and Stranmillis Embankment. Austin Clarke laid the foundation stone in 1965 a deliberate choice by O'Malley to build a link back to her artistic hero W. B. Yeats. In 1974 the theatre staged Andrew Lloyd Webber's ''Jesus Christ Superstar'', leading to protests. In 1976 Liam Neeson appeared in Brian Friel's ''Philadelphia Here I Come!''.
