Tony Bell (born 20 June 1958) is a freelance writer and journalist, known for his ''What's he on'' column in Cycling Weekly, where he was a columnist between 1994 and 2006. His popularity gained as a CW columnist led to engagements as an after-dinner speaker at cycling events. Bell is also a serious reporter with a degree in politics who has reported on race riots, gangland contracts, drugs wars and environmental and social issues in his native Merseyside for The Independent and The Observer. Following a road accident in which several members of Rhyl cycling club were killed, Bell criticized the attitudes of those such as Jeremy Clarkson, whose column in '' The Sun'' he considered anti-cyclist, and what he saw as the cynical attitude of motorists. Early life and education Anthony Raymond Bell was born on 9 June 1952 in Lincoln, England, to Raymond and Muriel Bell. He was educated at Leeds Modern School and Churchill College, Cambridge, where he studied natural sciences and later gained a PhD in radio astronomy in 1977 for research investigating supernova remnants. Anthony Bell (born 1970), sometimes known as Tony Bell, is an American animator, film director and screenwriter. After getting his start as a character layout artist and cleanup artist for ''The Simpsons'' in the early nineties, he got the opportunity to direct a number of episodes for the Nickelodeon hit, ''Rugrats''. Most recently, he has directed four episodes for the Adult Swim animated television series ''The Boondocks'', and directed the animated comedy-drama film, ''Alpha and Omega'', along with Ben Gluck. Anthony Dewitt Bell (born July 2, 1964) is an American former professional football player who was a linebacker for the St. Louis Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Michigan State Spartans and then was selected with the fifth overall pick in the first round of the 1986 NFL draft by the St. Louis Cardinals as the first linebacker selected in that year's draft under new Cardinals coach Gene Stallings. While enrolled at Michigan State University in 1986, Bell was selected to receive the Chester Brewer Leadership Award which is presented to "a graduating senior for distinguished performance in athletics and scholarship, and for possessing a high degree of leadership qualities and skill."
