Toneelgroep Amsterdam
Toneelgroep Amsterdam is the largest repertory company in the Netherlands. Its home base is the Amsterdam Stadsschouwburg, a classical 19th century theatre building in the heart of Amsterdam. History The Dutch Company Toneelgroep Amsterdam started in 1987 through a merger of and with Gerardjan Rijnders as its artistic director. His montage-method of creating plays and his avant-garde stagings of classic plays were very influential in the Netherlands, as well as abroad. Since 2000 the company is led by Flemish director Ivo van Hove. He and his long-time designer Jan Versweyveld broke through the confinements of the classical stage to rediscover the stage as a "location." Stadsschouwburg (Amsterdam)
The Stadsschouwburg (; Dutch: ''Municipal Theatre'') of Amsterdam is the name of a theatre building at the Leidseplein in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The building is in the neo-Renaissance style dating back to 1894, and is the former home of the National Ballet and Opera. History Rederijkerskamers The first 'rederijkers' (Dutch orators) appeared at the end of the 15th century in Amsterdam. In the 16th century, these so-called precursors of modern theatre organized themselves into 'rederijkerskamers', which can be compared to theater companies. At that time, there were no permanent theater buildings in Amsterdam, and the shipping company cherries performed on temporary stages, from carts (during processions) or in public spaces. Rederijkerskamers that performed in Amsterdam were: "In Liefde Bloeyende" and "'t Wit Lavendel". Ivo Van Hove
Ivo van Hove (born 28 October 1958) is a Belgian theatre director known as the artistic director of Toneelgroep Amsterdam in the Netherlands and for his Off-Broadway avant-garde experimental theatre productions. On Broadway, he has directed revival productions of Arthur Miller's '' A View from the Bridge'', and ''The Crucible'' (both in 2015), Lee Hall's ''Network'' in 2018, and Stephen Sondheim's ''West Side Story'' in 2020. Among his numerous awards he has received a Tony Award and a Laurence Olivier Award for ''A View from the Bridge''. He was made a Knight of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France in 2004, and a Commander in the Order of the Crown in 2016. Ramsey Nasr
Ramsey Nasr (born 28 January 1974, Rotterdam) is a Dutch author and actor of mixed descent, half Palestinian, half Dutch. He was '' Dichter des Vaderlands'' (Poet of the Fatherland; an unofficial title for the Dutch poet laureate) between January 2009 and January 2013. The concept of this was created by the Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad, the Nederlandse Programma Stichting and the foundation Poetry International in January 2000. Before Ramsey was Poet of the City of Antwerp, Belgium, in 2005. In 2005 he received the Hugues C. Pernath-prijs. Maria Kraakman (born 5 August 1975) is a Dutch actress. She won the Golden Calf for Best Actress award twice at the Netherlands Film Festival.
