Ton Sijbrands
Teunis (Ton) Sijbrands (born 15 December 1949, in Amsterdam) is a Dutch international draughts player who became world champion in 1972. The next year, he successfully defended his title in a match against Andris Andreiko. In 1967, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1973 and 1988 he was the national Dutch champion. Sijbrands also had a weekly column about draughts in the Dutch national newspaper ''de Volkskrant'' and wrote several books about the game. He also made major achievements in simultaneous blindfold draughts. In 2002 he won 17 games and played 5 draws from a total 22 games, which equals a score of approximately 88%. On 18 December 2004, in the Dutch village of Lutten, Sijbrands improved the world record for blindfold simultaneous draughts. In this attempt that lasted 24 hours, he won 20 out of 24 games; the other 4 were draws, which equals a score of about 92%. Radio Netherlands (RNW; nl, Radio Nederland Wereldomroep) was a public radio and television network based in Hilversum, producing and transmitting programmes for international audiences outside the Netherlands from 1947 to 2012. Its services in Dutch ended on 10 May 2012. English and Indonesian language services ceased on 29 June 2012 due to steep budget cuts imposed by the Dutch government and a concomitant change in focus. Lutten
Lutten (Dutch Low Saxon: ''Luttn'') is a village in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality Hardenberg, about south-west of Coevorden. History The village was first mentioned in 1532 as Lotten, and means "low lying place". There was another hamlet called Lutten nearby which changed its name to (Old Lutten). Lutten developed during the peat excavation of the raised bog. The construction of the canal stagnated near Lutten around 1830, because the ' Ane had not divided up the wilderness in its area. A ''marke'' was a form of government with communal land. In 1832, the problem was solved by digging a canal to Slagharen. Lutten was home to 236 people in 1840. The Dutch Reformed church is an aisleless church with an entrance hall topped by a tower with wooden roof lantern. It was built in 1853. International draughts (also called international checkers or Polish draughts) is a Abstract strategy, strategy board game for two players, one of the variants of draughts. The gameboard comprises 10×10 squares in alternating dark and light colours, of which only the 50 dark squares are used. Each player has 20 pieces, light for one player and dark for the other, at opposite sides of the board. A simultaneous exhibition or simultaneous display is a board game exhibition (commonly chess or Go) in which one player (typically of high rank, such as a grandmaster or dan-level player) plays multiple games at a time with a number of other players. Such an exhibition is often referred to simply as a "simul". Procedure In a regular simul, no chess clocks are used (if they are involved it is called a ''clock simul''). The boards are usually arranged in a large circle or square and the exhibitor walks from board to board in a fixed order.
