Tomás Caballero Pastor
Tomás Caballero Pastor (February 25, 1935 in Alfaro, La Rioja – May 6, 1998 in Pamplona) was a Spanish union leader and politician from Navarra. He was assassinated by the Basque separatist organization ETA. Early years Tomás was born in Alfaro although he grew up in Tudela, in the Spanish foral region of Navarre. He studied in a Jesuit school and at age 18 he joined the Spanish utility company FENSA which would later become Iberdrola. He was a co-founder of the cultural association Muskaria. Two years later he was transferred to the Pamplona headquarters where he worked while he obtained his degree in Topographic Engineering. Political activism and ideology In 1963 he became president of the Energy Union in Navarre and in 1967 he was elected President of the Navarrean Workers Council. Alfaro is a town and municipality in La Rioja, northern Spain. Its population in January 2009 was 9,883 inhabitants, and its area is 194.23 km². Unión Del Pueblo Navarro
The Navarrese People's Union ( es, Unión del Pueblo Navarro), abbreviated to UPN, is a regional conservative political party in Navarre, Spain. Until 2008, it was a fraternal party of the People's Party (PP), acting as the latter's Navarrese branch. UPN is a strong opponent of Basque nationalism, and supports a Spanish regional identity for Navarre with a marginal Basque component and separate from the Basque Country. The party's regionalist tradition dates back to the nineteenth century, in which the Spanish nation is seen to be based on 'regional liberties'. During the 1991–2008 period, UPN acted as the Navarrese branch of the PP, which, in return, did not run at Navarrese elections as a part of their agreement.
