Tommy Robinson (footballer)
Thomas Edward Robinson (11 February 1909 – 25 March 1982) was an English professional footballer who scored 37 goals in 121 appearances in the Football League playing mainly as an inside left for Birmingham, Blackpool, Chesterfield, Lincoln City, Northampton Town, Gillingham and Walsall. Life and career Thomas Edward Robinson was born on 11 February 1909 in Coalville, Leicestershire. He was the second son of Ernest Robinson, a coal miner, and his wife Gertrude Martha. He played local football for Coalville YMCA, Ibstock Town and Leicestershire Senior League club Whitwick Imperial before joining Loughborough Corinthians of the Midland League ahead of the 1927–28 season. He moved on to Gresley Rovers of the Birmingham Combination in March 1928, scored four goals on debut in a 10–0 win, and, after a trial in which he and Gresley team-mate George Haywood played for Birmingham's Combination side, both signed professional forms for the Football League First Division ... Non-league Football
Non-League football describes football leagues played outside the top leagues of a country. Usually, it describes leagues which are not fully professional. The term is primarily used for football in England, where it is specifically used to describe all football played at levels below those of the Premier League (20 clubs) and the three divisions of the English Football League (EFL; 72 clubs). Currently, a non-League team would be any club playing in the National League or below that level. Typically, non-League clubs are either semi-professional or amateur in status, although the majority of clubs in the National League are fully professional, some of which are former EFL clubs who have suffered relegation. The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888 as the Football League, the league is the oldest such competition in the world. It was the top-level football league in England from its foundation until 1992, when the top 22 clubs split from it to form the Premier League. The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. George Haywood
George Haywood (11 December 1906 – 25 January 1992) was an English professional footballer who played as a centre forward. He made 60 appearances and scored 23 goals in the Football League, playing for Birmingham, Chesterfield and Southport. Early life and career George Haywood was born on 11 December 1906 in Gelsmoor, Leicestershire. He was the son of Joseph Haywood, a coal miner, and his wife Lizzie, and was raised in nearby Coleorton. Haywood worked as a miner at Coleorton Colliery and New Lount Colliery, and played football for three seasons for his local club, Coleorton Bible Class of the Coalville Sunday Schools League. In April 1927, he was selected to represent that league against their Leicester counterparts, and he joined Whitwick Imperial of the Leicestershire Senior League ahead of the coming season. Birmingham Combination
The Birmingham Combination was an English football competition for teams in Birmingham and the surrounding areas, which was active from 1892 until 1954. It was founded as the Birmingham & District Junior League, and changed its name in 1908. The league was also affiliated to the Birmingham County F.A. Winners of the league would have had to have been elected to the Birmingham & District League in order to gain promotion. History The competition was formed in 1892, three years after the Birmingham & District League, to cater for those clubs which held "junior" membership of the Birmingham County Football Association, and was thus initially called the Birmingham & District Junior League.
