Tom Ross (politician)
Tom Ross (born 1981) is a British Labour politician and leader of Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council in Greater Manchester. As leader he is also a member of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and is the combined authority's portfolio lead for the Green City-Region. Prior to becoming leader, he was the council's executive member for finance and governance and was Mayor of Trafford, a ceremonial position, during the 2018–2019 municipal year. First elected to the council in 2008, Ross is the councillor for Stretford and Humphrey Park. He was elected as council leader on 4 January 2023, following his predecessor Andrew Western's election as Member of Parliament for Stretford and Urmston. Trafford Council is the local authority of the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford in Greater Manchester, England. It is a metropolitan district council, one of ten in Greater Manchester and one of 36 in the metropolitan counties of England, and provides the majority of local government services in Trafford. Altrincham Grammar School for Boys is a boys' grammar school in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, England. Admissions The school is a fully selective non-fee paying grammar school with admission via an entrance exam. Its previous status as a foundation school allowed for a degree of independence from the local education authority, until in 2011, under the government's education reforms, it attained Academy status. History The school was founded as Altrincham County High School for Boys (ACHS) in 1912 as a result of the Balfour Education Act, to provide secondary education (partly fee-paying) for an area which stretched from Sale to Knutsford. GM Ringway
The GM Ringway is a long-distance walking trail in Greater Manchester, England. It traces a circular path around the city-region through each of the 10 boroughs and covers approximately in total. It is designed around existing footpaths, parks and open-access land. The project is supported by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority as well as The Ramblers and CPRE, the walking and countryside charities, respectively. History In June 2022, The Ramblers and CPRE charities were awarded a £250,000 grant by the National Lottery Heritage Fund to establish the GM Ringway. Andrew Western
Andrew Howard Western (born 18 March 1985) is a British Labour Party politician who was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Stretford and Urmston at the 2022 by-election. He had been the leader of Trafford Council since 2018, a post he vacated upon his election to parliament. Early life Western was born at Wythenshawe Hospital to Denise Western (née Firth) and Howard Western and grew up in Timperley. He had four sisters, and describes his upbringing as "modest", saying that "after my parents' divorce times were tough"; he benefited from the Education Maintenance Allowance and was the first member of his family to go to university.
