Thomas Moore (28 May 1779 – 25 February 1852) was an Irish writer, poet, and lyricist celebrated for his ''Irish Melodies''. Their setting of English-language verse to old Irish tunes marked the transition in popular Irish culture from Irish to English. Politically, Moore was recognised in England as a press, or " squib", writer for the aristocratic Whigs; in Ireland he was accounted a Catholic patriot. Married to a Protestant actress and hailed as "Anacreon Moore" after the classical Greek composer of drinking songs and erotic verse, Moore did not profess religious piety. Yet in the controversies that surrounded Catholic Emancipation, Moore was seen to defend the tradition of the Church in Ireland against both evangelising Protestants and uncompromising lay Catholics. Thomas Love Moore (died 1862) was a nineteenth-century congressman and lawyer from Virginia. Born near Charles Town, Virginia, Moore pursued an academic course as a child, studied law and was admitted to the bar. He was elected a Democratic-Republican to the United States House of Representatives to fill a vacancy, serving from 1820 to 1823. Afterwards, Moore continued practicing law in Warrenton, Virginia Warrenton is a town in Fauquier County, Virginia, of which it is the seat of government. The population was 9,611 at the 2010 census, up from 6,670 at the 2000 census. The estimated population in 2019 was 10,027. Thomas Moore (born 1864 – died before 1945) was a Scottish footballer who played in the Football League for Stoke. Career Moore was signed by his local side Arbroath in 1887. He moved south to England to join Stoke in August 1888. Moore made his Stoke and League debut, on 13 October 1888, at Pike's Lane the then home of Bolton Wanderers. Stoke lost 2–1. Thomas Moore (1877 – after 1900) was an English association footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Born in Stoke-on-Trent, Moore played for Millwall Athletic before a controversial move to local rivals Thames Ironworks, making his debut on 10 September 1898 in a 3–0 away win against Shepherd's Bush. Moore was a member of the side which won the Southern Football League second division in 1898–99. The side conceded only 16 goals in 22 games, 21 of which saw Moore in goal. Regular appearances in the side continued until Thames Ironworks folded in 1900. Their successor club West Ham United included Moore in their second game of the season on 8 September 1900, a 3–1 defeat to Millwall Athletic. He replaced Hugh Monteith who had kept goal in the opening game of the season, a 7–0 defeat to Gravesend United. Tommy Joe Moore (July 7, 1948 – November 16, 2017) was an American professional baseball pitcher, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB), in parts of four seasons between 1972 and 1977. Early years Fresh out of John Glenn High School in Norwalk, California, Moore was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 28th round of the 1966 Major League Baseball draft, but did not sign. Seven months later, while a student at Cerritos College, the New York Mets drafted him in the tenth round of the January 1967 Secondary draft, and he signed. While a student at Cerritos, Moore toiled around in the lower levels of the Mets' farm system, going 14-18 with a 3.59 earned run average (ERA) until he had a standout season with the Mets' triple A affiliate, the Tidewater Tides. Tom Moore (1878 – 6 July 1943) was a Anglo-Canadian carpenter and trade unionist from Ontario. Biography Moore was born in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. He emigrated to Canada in 1909 at the age of 31 and settled in Niagara Falls, Ontario. He was active in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America at both the local and regional level, including working as an organizer for Eastern Canada from 1911 to 1918. In 1919, he served on the Royal Commission on Industrial Relations (Mathers Commission). In 1920, Moore was elected president of the American Federation of Labor-affiliated Trades and Labor Congress of Canada, a position he held until 1935.
