Tom Moore (footballer)
Thomas Lynch Moore (born 25 July 1936) is an English former amateur footballer who played as a goalkeeper in the Football League for Darlington. Moore was born in Trimdon, County Durham. He played football for his local club, Trimdon Grange of the Wearside League, before joining Darlington during the 1956–57 season. He played regularly for the reserves in the North-Eastern League, but appeared only once for the first team, standing in for Ron Ward for the Fourth Division match at home to York City York City Football Club is a professional association football club based in the city of York, North Yorkshire, England. John Tennant (footballer, Born 1939)
John Graham Tennant (1 August 1939 – December 1985) was an English footballer who played as a goalkeeper in the Football League for Darlington and Southend United. Tennant was born in Darlington, County Durham, in 1939. He made his debut for Darlington F.C. as a 17-year-old, in a 1–0 defeat away to Halifax Town in the Fourth Division on 19 April 1957. He played twice more in what remained of the season, and made a further five appearances early in the 1957–58 season, conceding 14 goals. Given a free transfer by Darlington, Tennant joined up with First Division club Chelsea in August 1959 for a month's trial, during which he made five appearances for their Metropolitan League team. The trial came to nothing, and in October he joined Southend United. The Football League Fourth Division was the fourth-highest division in the English football league system from the 1958–59 season until the creation of the Premier League prior to the 1992–93 season. Whilst the division disappeared in name in 1992, the 4th tier of English football continued as the Football League Third Division, and later became known as Football League Two. North-Eastern League
The North Eastern League was an association football league for teams in the North East of England. The league was founded in 1906 and was initially successful, with teams defecting from the rival Northern Football Alliance to play. Although some members (such as Darlington) transferred to join the Football League Third Division North in 1921, the North Eastern League absorbed the Northern Alliance in 1925–26 and split into two divisions. The league spent nine years like this, returning to one division in 1935; clubs from the second division re-forming the Northern Football Alliance, which became a feeder to it. As years progressed, numbers dwindled and the league initially folded in 1958 after the withdrawal of Football League clubs' reserve sides.
