Thomas Davies (bishop)
Thomas Davies (1511?–1573) was a Welsh clergyman, Bishop of St Asaph from 1561 to 1573. Early life Davies was born about 1511, either at his father's house at Caerhun, in the parish of Llanbedr-y-Cennin, between Conwy and Llanrwst in Carnarvonshire, or, as some say, in Conwy town. His father, reputed to be a descendant of Sir Gruffudd Llwyd, was a country gentleman; his brothers filled posts as sheriff, coroner, and escheator of Carnarvonshire. In 1535 the rectory of Llanbedr, together with the vicarage of Caerhun, was conferred on Davies, who must have been resident for the next few years at Cambridge. After a possible previous period at Oxford, he entered St John's College, Cambridge and afterwards Queens' College, Cambridge, where he proceeded LL.B. in 1543, and LL.D. in 1548. Thomas Nathaniel Davies
Thomas Nathaniel Davies (1922–1996) was a Welsh artist and teacher, born in Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. Shunning a promising early career with Cardiff City Football Club, he enrolled at Cardiff College of Art in 1939, where he was taught and befriended by the painter Ceri Richards. His studies were interrupted by the Second World War and he was called up for service with the Royal Corps of Signals in North Africa. On his return he taught for a brief period at the Royal College of Art where the sculptor John Skeaping, a professor there, became a close friend. In 1945 he accepted a job at Newton Abbot Art School, before later becoming the Head of Art at South Devon College, Torquay. During this post-War period he produced paintings that reflected both his childhood in the grey iron town of Dowlais and the green landscape of his new life in Devon. Thomas Glanville Davies (7 May 1920 – 16 December 1998) was a Welsh Middleweight boxer. Davies was Wales middleweight champion from 1943 until his retirement in 1949. He successfully defended his title on four occasions. Davies was considered a serious contender for the British Middleweight title, but a string of three fights against Vince Hawkins during 1944 robbed him of his chance of a title fight. Thomas Osborne Davies (27 March 1882 – 1967) was an English professional footballer who played as an outside forward for various clubs between 1900 and 1910. His career started in the Southern League with his hometown club Swindon Town, before spending three years in the Football League First Division with Nottingham Forest. He then returned to the Southern League with Reading and, later, Southampton before a broken leg ended his career. Thomas Davies was an English footballer who played 65 league and cup games at left-back for Burslem Port Vale between 1899 and 1903. Career Davies started out with Nantwich, helping the club win the Cheshire Junior Cup in 1896 and reach the Cheshire Senior Cup final in 1898. He joined Burslem Port Vale in August 1899 and played three Second Division games in the 1899–1900 season, before making 29 league appearances in the 1900–01 campaign. He played 25 league games in 1901–02, but left the Athletic Ground after he featured just once in the 1902–03 season. He had played 65 league and cup games for the Burslem club. Thomas J. Davies (October 14, 1896 – February 29, 1972) was an American football player and coach. He played as a halfback at the University of Pittsburgh and was a consensus All-American in 1918 and 1920. After retiring as a player, Davies worked as a football coach for the next 26 years, including stints at the University of Pennsylvania, Geneva College, Allegheny College, the University of Rochester, the Carnegie Institute of Technology, the University of Scranton, and Western Reserve University. Thomas Davies (1872 – 1950s) was a Welsh amateur footballer who played at half back for Druids for twenty years around the turn of the twentieth century. He also made four appearances for the Welsh national team. Football career Davies was one of five brothers from Cefn Mawr who played for the local Druids side, then one of the top teams in Wales. He was a stalwart of the Druids side between 1890 and 1910 and later became a member of the club committee. He had a reputation for strength and fitness and is reputed to have never left the field of play as a result of injury; he put his longevity down to "the entire abstention from tobacco and alcoholic drinks". Despite being only a few inches over 5 feet tall, Davies was described as a "glutton for work"; the England international, C.B.
