Tom Buchy
Thomas Buchy (born April 11, 1967) is a Canadian curler and coach from Marysville, British Columbia. At the 2008 Tim Hortons Brier, Buchy was the alternate for the Bob Ursel team out of the Kelowna Curling Club. Buchy has also been to four Canadian Mixed Curling Championships and one Canadian Senior Curling Championships as skip. 2008 Tim Hortons Brier
The 2008 Tim Hortons Brier, Canada's men's curling championship, was held from March 8 to 16 at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Skipped by Kevin Martin, Alberta defeated the defending champion, and reigning World Champion Glenn Howard and Team Ontario. The final pitted arguably the top 2 teams in the world, at least the top 2 teams in the World Curling Tour. The final, while close, failed to live up to expectations, and was widely considered boring, and was full of mistakes due to ice problems. Martin had a draw to the button in the tenth end to win the game. Bob Ursel
Robert (Bob) "Bobby" Ursel (born February 12, 1965) is a Canadian curler and curling coach. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Ursel curls out of Kelowna, British Columbia. Curling career In 1984, Ursel skipped his native Manitoba to a Canadian Junior Curling Championship. The following year, he skipped the Canadian Junior Team to a World Junior Curling Championship title. That team was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2016. It would be 15 years out of junior that Ursel would finally make it to the Brier. He played third for Bert Gretzinger's 1999 British Columbia team. They finished 5-6. In 2002 Ursel moved to play third for Pat Ryan where he made the 2003 Nokia Brier. At the 2003 Brier, the team lost in the semi-final to Nova Scotia (skipped by Mark Dacey). After the 2003 Brier, Ursel left the Ryan team to form his own team. Canadian Mixed Curling Championships
The Canadian Mixed Curling Championship is the national curling championship for mixed curling in Canada. The winners of the tournament will represent Canada at the World Mixed Curling Championship. In mixed curling, the positions on a team must alternate between men and women. If a man throws last rocks, which is usually the case, the women must throw lead rocks and third rocks, while the other male member of the team throws second rocks. In 2004, Shannon Kleibrink became the only woman to skip a team and win a Canadian Mixed championship. History The Canadian Mixed Curling Championship was established in 1964, with Canadian Breweries as the event's sponsor and Frank Sargent as its committee chairman. Canadian Senior Curling Championships
The Canadian Senior Curling Championships are an annual bonspiel held to determine the national champions in senior curling for Canada. Seniors are defined as being people over the age of 50. The championship teams play at the World Senior Curling Championships the following year. The event's first committee was established in October 1964. Frank Sargent was an original member of the senior championship committee, and believed the event would attract former Brier competitors and give seniors a place to compete which had not existed. The inaugural Canadian Seniors Curling Championship was hosted in Port Arthur in March 1965. It used a minimum age of 55 for competitors, and had the Seagram Company The Seagram Company Ltd.
