He is variously referred to as ''lo Viellz'' ("the Old") and ''lo Gros'' ("the Fat"), though these are thought by some to refer to two different persons. Peire Guillem (or Guilhem) de Tolosa was a 13th-century troubadour from Toulouse. Only one ''sirventes'' he wrote ("En Sordel, que us es semblan"), a ''tenso'' with the contemporary Italian poet Sordello, survives. According to his ''Vida (Occitan literary form), vida'' he was a courtly man who loved high society. The author of the ''vida'' also expresses admiration for his couplets but bewails the excessive number he composed, though so few of his works survive to this day. He was also said to have composed ''sirventes joglarescs'', or ''sirventes'' in the manner of jongleur, joglars, in order to criticise "the barons" (presumably the high noblesse). He also wrote a work criticising the prolific trouvère Theobald I of Navarre. The troubadour Bertran Carbonel twice mentions another troubadour by the initials P.G., possibly indicating Peire Guilhem. Juan Carlos Tolosa (born in Córdoba, Argentina, Córdoba, 2 October 1966) is an Argentinian composer, pianist, and conductor. Studies Juan Carlos Tolosa began his musical studies in 1972 at Instituto Domingo Zípoli in Córdoba, where he received a degree as choir master. After dropping law, he entered the National University of Córdoba to pursue a career as a composer from 1986 to 1989. In 1989, he left for Europe and settled in Brussels. He studied at the Brussels Conservatory, where he received composition prizes in the classes of Paul-Baudouin Michel and Daniel Capelletti for orchestration, musical form, forms, harmony, and musical theory. Juan de Tolosa (c. 1515-before 1594) was a Spanish Basque conquistador. He discovered rich silver deposits near the present day city of Zacatecas, Mexico, in 1546. Early life Juan de Tolosa was born in the sixteenth century in or near Tolosa, Spain. He took the nickname of "Barbalonga" in recognition of his impressive beard. He emigrated to New Spain (later known as Mexico). Founder of Zacatecas Tolosa's date of arrival in the Americas is unknown although he was apparently a soldier during the Mixtón War from 1540 to 1542. After the war, Tolosa led several expeditions in search of silver along with Miguel de Ibarra and a contingent of Spanish soldiers and Indian slaves. In what is now Tlaltenango, Indians showed him rocks containing silver and, on September 8, 1546, he found his way to the origin of the rocks on the Cerro de la Bufa at Zacatecas.
