It was formed on 11 June 2022 as a merger of Together for Serbia, Ecological Uprising, and Assembly of Free Serbia, which were a part of the We Must coalition that took part in the 2022 general election. Ecological Uprising
Ecological Uprising ( sr-cyr, Еколошки устанак, Ekološki ustanak, EU) was a political and protest movement in Serbia that gained presence during the 2021–2022 Serbian environmental protests. It was led by Aleksandar Jovanović Ćuta, who was elected to the National Assembly of Serbia at the head of We Must (''Moramo'') coalition in the 2022 Serbian parliamentary election. 2022 Belgrade City Assembly Election
Local elections were held in Belgrade on 3 April 2022 to elect members of the City Assembly. Alongside the election, national-level general elections and local elections in 12 other towns and municipalities were held on the same day. The elections are likely to be repeated in either December 2022 or March 2023, considering the government coalition has a tight majority, receiving less votes than the opposition parties. 2022 Serbian General Election
General elections were held in Serbia on 3 April 2022 to elect both the president and members of the National Assembly. Initially, parliamentary elections were scheduled to be held in 2024; however, in October 2020 president Aleksandar Vučić stated that snap parliamentary elections would be held in or before April 2022. In addition to the general elections, local elections were held simultaneously in 12 municipalities and 2 cities, including Belgrade. Aleksandar Jovanović ( sr-Cyrl, Александар Јовановић; born 30 September 1966), commonly known by his nickname Ćuta, is a Serbian environmental activist and politician who has been a member of the National Assembly of Serbia since August 2022. Born in Belgrade, Ćuta often stayed at Stara Planina, a mountain in Eastern Serbia, and was interested in rock music, football, and chess during his youth. He founded the "Defend the Rivers of Stara Planina" organisation in 2017, which primarily concentrated on combating the construction of small hydros in the Stara Planina region, although over time, Ćuta shifted his presence over other regions of Serbia. Dobrica Veselinović (Serbian Cyrillic: Добрица Веселиновић, born 27 July 1981) is a Serbian activist and politician. He is a member of the Minor Council which represents the left-wing Do not let Belgrade drown movement. 2021–2022 Serbian Environmental Protests
In September 2021, a series of environmental protests began in Belgrade and other locations in Serbia. The protests, which were attended by tens of thousands of people, lasted until February 2022. In 2004, Anglo-Australian corporation Rio Tinto was given permission to explore mines near the Jadar Valley, and in 2017, the Government of Serbia signed an agreement to implement "Project Jadar", which would give Rio Tinto permission to exploit the silicate mineral jadarite.
