Södra Cell Tofte
Södra Cell Tofte is a pulp mill located at Tofte in Buskerud, Norway. The plant dates back to 1897 when Tofte Cellulosefabrik was founded at the initiative of industrialist Anthon B. Nilsen. The raw material used at the plant is from eucalyptus, pine and spruce. The plant received about 25% of all Norwegian timber. Tofte Industrier was formed in 1983 to operate the plant and produce chemical paper pulp. In 1989 Tofte Industrier was merged into Norske Skog. Andreas Tofte
Andreas Tofte (28 March 1795 – 27 September 1852) was a Norwegian people, Norwegian businessperson, elected official and philanthropist. He served as the first Mayor of Oslo, Norway. Biography He was born on the Tofte, Norway, Tofte farm at Hurum in Buskerud, Norway. He was a son of landowner Mads Trulsen Tofte (1750–1823) and Elisabeth Borch (1749–1826). In November 1819, he married Christine Søeberg (1797–1848) in Drammen. His daughter married businessman Thorvald Meyer, who inherited his enterprises. He was also an ancestor of Erling Christophersen and Christian Schweigaard Stang. In 1819, Tofte moved from Hurum to Christiania (now Oslo), where he established commercial citizenship. He operated a Freight company, carriage and Freight transport, shipping business which within 10 years made him a wealthy man. Tofte, Norway
250 px, Statkraft Hurum saltkraftverk Tofte is a village in the Asker municipality in Viken, Norway. It is situated on the Hurum Peninsula (''Hurumhalvøya'') on the Oslo Fjord. It is the second largest settlement in Hurum. Before 1897, there were no densely populated areas on Tofte. At Sagene, a marble grinding mill was built by the Sagene River in the mid-1890s. In 1896, Anthon Bernhard Elias Nilsen (1855-1936) bought property with associated forest properties, with the intention of building a cellulose factory. The factory was built in 1897, and put into operation in 1899. In 1907, Anthon Nilsen also founded a cellulose factory at Sagene, a couple of kilometers southwest of the factory at Tofte. These two factories, Tofte Cellulosefabrik AS and Hurum Fabriker AS, became the center of employment during the following century. Tofte Township is one of the three townships of Cook County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 226 at the 2000 census. The unincorporated community of Tofte is located within the township. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 162.6 square miles (421.0 km), of which 154.6 square miles (400.3 km) is land and 8.0 square miles (20.7 km) (4.92%) is water. The township is located on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Minnesota Highway 61 serves as a main route in the township. Arthur R Tofte (June 8, 1902 – May 21, 1980) was an American writer, best known for his science fiction and fantasy. He has an award named after him, which is given to the category of children's literature by the Council for Wisconsin Writers. He was married to Dorothy Tofte and had two children. Lars Valdemar Tofte (21 October 1832 – 28 May 1907) was a Danish violinist who taught for a half century and trained over 300 of Denmark's violinists. Biography Tofte was born on 21 October 1832 in Copenhagen, Denmark, to distiller Hans Larsen Tofte (1798–1857) and Mathilde Pedersen (1812–1867). The father, who loved music and was a good violinist, wanted his son to become a musician, particularly a violin virtuoso. To that end, he took Tofte at a young age to concerts to hear great artists like Miska Hauser, Hubert Léonard, Carl Moeser and François Prume. He also found skilled teachers: first Carl T. Petersen, violinist in Hans Christian Lumbye's orchestra, known for his beautiful bowing, and then Julius Semler of the Royal Danish Orchestra.
