Toby Creswell
Toby Creswell (born 21 May 1955) is an Australian music journalist and pop-culture writer. He was editor of ''Rolling Stone'' (Australia) and a founding editor of ''Juice''. In 1986, he co-wrote, with Martin Fabinyi, his first book, ''Too Much Ain't Enough'' a biography of pub rocker and former Cold Chisel vocalist Jimmy Barnes. He also wrote ''The Real Thing: Adventures in Australian Rock & Roll, 1957-Now'' (1999) and ''1001 Australians You Should Know'' (2006). The latter was written with his domestic partner, fellow writer and journalist, Samantha Trenoweth. Biography Creswell wrote his first article on rock & roll for ''Nation Review'' in 1972. He subsequently wrote articles about all aspects of popular culture and music for ''RAM'', ''Billboard'', ''Roadrunner'' and a range of national and international magazines and newspapers. Roadrunner (Australian Music Magazine)
''Roadrunner'' was a monthly Australian music magazine based in Adelaide, South Australia. The magazine was founded by Stuart Coupe and Donald Robertson and forty-eight issues were published between March 1978 and January 1983. The magazine was inspired by the punk rock/ new wave movement of the mid 1970s and took its name from the Jonathan Richman song ''Roadrunner''. In its first year (1978) ''Roadrunner'' was produced by an editorial collective that included Coupe, Robertson, Allan Coop, Alex Ehlert, Bruce Milne and Clinton Walker and was only distributed in South Australia. Robertson became editor and publisher and secured national distribution from issue 10 (February 1979). Issue 23 (February 1980) of the magazine forms part of the Festival Records collection at Sydney's Powerhouse Museum as an example of how rock music magazines helped to promote overseas recording artists. Brian Nankervis (born 1956) is an Australian writer, actor, radio host, television producer and comedian. Personal life Nankervis was born in Melbourne. He lives in St Kilda with documentary film makerSue Thomsonand their children, Claudia, Lola, Henry-Joe and Brian's favourite, Jerry. Great Australian Albums
''Great Australian Albums'' was an Australian TV documentary series, which was broadcast on SBS-TV for two seasons (2007 and 2008) of four episodes each. The first season commenced on 28 July 2007 and was written by Toby Creswell with Larry Meltzer directing, while Creswell and Meltzer were co-producers for Mushroom Pictures. Each 52-minute episode was presented by Creswell and dealt with a separate Australian album. It received funding from Film Finance Corporation Australia (FFC). Season two, which was broadcast from 6 September 2008, followed the same format with Creswell and Meltzer reprising their roles except it was co-produced by Creswell with Danielle Kelly. Pub Rock (Australia)
Pub rock is a style of Australian rock and roll popular throughout the 1970s and 1980s, and that was still influencing contemporary Australian music in the 2000s. The term came from the venues where most of these bands originally played — inner-city and suburban pubs. These often noisy, hot, small and crowded venues were not always ideal as music venues and favoured loud, simple songs based on drums and electric guitar riffs. The Australian version of pub rock incorporates hard rock, blues rock, and/or progressive rock.
