Tjede Peckes
Tjede Peckes ( Padingbüttel-Oberstrich, around 1500 – Wremen-Wremer Tief, 23 December 1517) was a Wurster Frisian military flag bearer who was slain in the Battle of the Wremer Djip at age 17. Biography Peckes was born around the year 1500 in Padingbüttel-Oberstrich as the daughter of a free farmer and became a member of a women's movement whose members saw themselves as successors to the '' virgines capitales,'' considered the four most important holy virgin martyrs of Christianity ( Catherine of Alexandria, Barbara of Nicomedia, Margaret of Antioch and Dorothea of Caesarea). Peckes and her female contemporaries protested against the Church by choosing not to enter a monastery. (At that time, many young women went to the convent if they could not find a husband or had no prospect of work.) Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor
Maximilian I (22 March 1459 – 12 January 1519) was King of the Romans from 1486 and Holy Roman Emperor from 1508 until his death. He was never crowned by the pope, as the journey to Rome was blocked by the Venetians. He proclaimed himself Elected Emperor in 1508 (Pope Julius II later recognized this) at Trent, thus breaking the long tradition of requiring a Papal coronation for the adoption of the Imperial title. The Duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg (german: Herzogtum Braunschweig und Lüneburg), or more properly the Duchy of Brunswick and Lüneburg, was a historical duchy that existed from the late Middle Ages to the Late Modern era within the Holy Roman Empire, until the year of its dissolution.
