Tinmouth is a town in Rutland County, Vermont, United States. The population was 553 at the 2020 census. History Tinmouth was established in 1761 in a region that came to be known as the New Hampshire Grants. At the first U.S. census, the town had a population of 935. Tinmouth's population peaked in 1820, and for the next 150 years the town's population gradually declined, reaching its lowest (268) in 1970. The town reached a population of 567 at the 2000 census, the first time since the 1880 census that it was above 500. In early 2007 the citizens of Tinmouth undertook what turned into an "acrimonious" debate about switching from town meeting to the Australian ballot; two separate votes were held, both close, but ending in the decision to make the switch. The first vote was 97–95 in favor of the switch, the second was 112–104. The Tinmouth Historic District encompasses a cluster of residential and civic buildings that form the center of the village Tinmouth Center in Tinmouth, Vermont. The district contains a collection of well-preserved buildings, that are reflective of life in a rural 19th-century village. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Description and history The town of Tinmouth was chartered in 1761, settled about 1770, and incorporated in 1777. It was for a few years the shire town of Rutland County. Its early economic development was from varied sources, including mills, tanneries, and iron smelting operations that took advantage of beds of iron ore. The town was bypassed by the construction of railroads in the region, and saw some economic success later in the 19th century with the advent of dairy farming. Teignmouth
Teignmouth ( ) is a seaside town, fishing port and civil parish in the English county of Devon. It is situated on the north bank of the estuary mouth of the River Teign, about 12 miles south of Exeter. The town had a population of 14,749 at the last census in 2011. From the 1800s onwards, the town rapidly grew in size from a fishing port associated with the Newfoundland cod industry to a fashionable resort of some note in Georgian times, with further expansion after the opening of the South Devon Railway in 1846. Tynemouth () is a coastal town in the metropolitan borough of North Tyneside, North East England. It is located on the north side of the mouth of the River Tyne, hence its name. It is 8 mi (13 km) east-northeast of Newcastle upon Tyne. It is also home to Tynemouth Priory. Historically part of Northumberland until 1974, the town was a county borough which included the nearby town of North Shields. In 2001, the population of the town was recorded at 17,056. History The headland towering over the mouth of the River Tyne has been settled since the Iron Age. The Romans may have occupied it as a signal station, though it is just north of the Hadrian's Wall frontier (the Roman fort and supply depot of Arbeia stands almost opposite it on the southern headland of the Tyne). Jennifer Rosanne Tinmouth (born 8 March 1978) is an English motorcycle racer. She is the current female Isle of Man TT lap record holder, breaking the record during her first ever TT in 2009 and gaining a Guinness World Record for this achievement. She then re-broke her own lap record during her second TT in 2010, with an average lap speed of 119.945 mph, gaining another Guinness World Record. Tinmouth is also the first and only female competing in the British Superbike Championship, for which she received yet another Guinness World Record.
