Tinku Acharya
Tinku Acharya is an Indian computer scientist, technologist and fellow of IEEE. Education and career Tinku Acharya was born in Howrah, West Bengal, India. He received his BSc, BTech and MTech in CS from the Calcutta University in 1987. He completed PhD in Computer Science from the Central Florida University in 1994, USA with specialization in VLSI Architectures and Algorithms for Data Compression. From 1996 to 2002, Acharya worked at Intel Corporation USA. He led several R&D and algorithm development teams in Intel Corporation (USA) to develop digital camera, electronic imaging systems and reprographics architecture for color photocopiers, and high-performance VLSI architectures. Howrah
Howrah (, , alternatively spelled as Haora) is a city in the Indian state of West Bengal. Howrah is located on the western bank of the Hooghly River opposite its twin city of Kolkata. Tinku, a Bolivian Aymara tradition, began as a form of ritualistic combat. In the Quechua language, it means “meeting-encounter". During this ritual, men and women from different communities will meet and begin the festivities by dancing. The women will then form circles and begin chanting while the men proceed to fight each other; eventually the women will join in the fighting as well. Large tinkus are held in Potosí during the first few weeks of May. The story behind this cultural dance is that long ago, the colonial hacendados set fights between indigenous campesinos for their amusement. Pututu trumpets were used by the Indians in order to call for a Tinku encounter, as well as to assemble the peons when the hacendado required of their presence.
