A private investigator (often abbreviated to PI and informally called a private eye), a private detective, or inquiry agent is a person who can be hired by individuals or groups to undertake investigatory law services. Private investigators often work for attorneys in civil and criminal cases. History In 1833, Eugène François Vidocq, a French soldier, criminal, and privateer, founded the first known private detective agency, "Le Bureau des Renseignements Universels pour le commerce et l'Industrie" ("The Office of Universal Information For Commerce and Industry") and hired ex-convicts. Much of what private investigators did in the early days was to act as the police in matters for which their clients felt the police were not equipped or willing to do. Crime films, in the broadest sense, is a film genre inspired by and analogous to the crime fiction literary genre. Films of this genre generally involve various aspects of crime and its detection. ''Vegas'' (stylized as ''Vega$'') is an American crime drama television series that aired on ABC from September 20, 1978, to June 3, 1981, with the pilot episode airing April 25, 1978. ''Vegas'' was produced by Aaron Spelling and created by Michael Mann. The series (with the exception of special episodes filmed in Hawaii and San Francisco) was filmed in its entirety on location in Las Vegas, Nevada. Lawrence Doheny
Lawrence Doheny (14 April 1924 - 7 September 1982) was an Irish-born American television and film director who directed more than 100 episodes of television from the 1950s to the 1980s. Born in Limerick, Doheny emigrated to the United States in the 1930s and began directing for television, first on the series '' The Big Story'' and ''Rescue 8''. In 1961 he wrote and directed a feature film, ''Teenage Millionaire''. This would be Doheny's only foray into feature films. James Allen Schmerer (June 14, 1938 – October 4, 2019) was an American television producer, screenwriter and author, best known for his work on popular action, western and crime drama television programs of the seventies and eighties. Robert Urich
Robert Michael Urich (December 19, 1946 – April 16, 2002) was an American film, television, and stage actor, and television producer. Over the course of his 30-year career, he starred in a record 15 television series. Urich began his career in television in the early 1970s. After guest stints and roles in short-lived television series, he won a co-starring role in the action/crime drama series ''S.W.A.T.'' in 1975.
