Tilst
Tilst is a suburban area of Aarhus, Denmark, situated some 10 km to the west of Aarhus. The Tilst area is marked by big city blocks and large traditional suburban areas. In the surrounding area are several superstores, which mainly serve the inner city population of Aarhus. The area is most commonly known for the Bilka warehouse, the largest in Denmark and the only one of its kind in the Aarhus area. The area is divided by the intercity Viborgvej road, with Tilst on the northern side, and the True and Skjoldhøj area situated to the south, bordering Brabrand and Hasle. Tilst has a relatively high density of immigrants compared to the rest of Aarhus, and the suburb is home to many ethnic groups. Tilst is divided into several neighbourhoods, each one usually identified by its location or street names. Tilst Church
Tilst Church is a church in Aarhus, Denmark, situated in the suburb Tilst 8 kilometers north-west of Aarhus city center. Tilst Church is from the 1100s, erected as a typical Danish Romanesque village church. Later additions in the 15th century added a Gothic tower and porch. Tilst Church is the only church in Tilst Parish but it is a part of the Tilst- Kasted pastorate which includes Tilst and Kasted Churches. There were 5.163 members of the Church of Denmark living in Tilst Parish on 1 January 2016. Architecture The original part of the church, the chancel and nave, probably dates from the latter half of the 12th century and is constructed of split and rough granite boulders. Ashlar is used at the windows, doors and the corners of the building. Thorald's House
Thorald's House (Danish:Thoralds Hus) is a house and a listed building in Aarhus, Denmark. The house was built in approximately 1750 and was listed on the Danish registry of protected buildings and places by the Danish Heritage Agency on 21 March 2012. The house is situated in the Tilst suburb 8 km west of the city center, adjacent to the Tilst Church. History The house was built some time in the mid-1700s as a smallholding under Lyngbygård. The house had a piece of land by Geding Lake attached during the land redistribution of the late 18th century land reforms. The house is described in an 1834 copyhold document as 9 joists long with a threshing floor and a flail in the 3 northernmost joists, stable in the two southernmost and home in the middle. Langkær Gymnasium & HF
Langkaer Gymnasium - STX, HF & IB World School (formerly Langkær Gymnasium) was a secondary school and gymnasium in Tilst, Denmark. The school opened in 1975 and effectively closed in 2018 when it merged with Aarhus Tech. In 2014, the school had over 900 students enrolled, primarily between the ages of 15 and 19. The student body consisted of 30 classes divided between three years, with 10 new classes beginning each year. This made it the largest school of its type in Aarhus. At the time of its closure, Langkaer Gymnasium offered a 3 year matriculation examination (STX) program within four main branches: natural sciences, political sciences, linguistics and music. The school's 2 year Higher Preparatory Examination (HF) program was offered from 1975-1978 and again from 1989 onwards. Bilka
Bilka is a Danish chain of hypermarkets. The first store opened in 1970 in Tilst, a suburb of Aarhus. The chain was founded by Herman Salling and is now a part of Salling Group. Today the only air to the large supermarket group is Nikolaj Harrison. Name The name ''Bilka'' is derived from the German ''Billiges Kaufhaus'' (low-price department store), which its founder, Herman Salling had encountered during his business trips to West Germany. The First Bilka Store The first ''Bilka'' store was the first low-cost store in Denmark. With sale area of 10000 square meters and parking space for 1200 cars, this was also the largest store in Denmark. The opening of the first ''Bilka'' store brought revision to the regional plan for Great Aarhus from 1954. Geding Sø
Geding Lake (Danish: Geding Sø) is a lake west of the Aarhus suburb of Tilst in Aarhus Municipality, Denmark. The stream Egå and the Egå river valley begins here. The lake is bounded by the Aarhus-Randers Rail Line to the west. Geding Lake is also known under the older name ''Gjeding Sø''. Aarhus Municipality ( da, Aarhus Kommune), known as Århus Municipality ( da, Århus Kommune) until 2011, is a municipality in Central Denmark Region, on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. Hasle, Aarhus
Hasle is a large neighbourhood of Aarhus in Denmark. It is located 3 km north-west of the Aarhus city centre and is part of postal district Aarhus V. Geography and history Hasle is situated in a hilly moranial plateau with a maximum natural height of 78 meters above sealevel. Hasle was an independent village to the east of Aarhus, but in the 20th century the two towns gradually merged and it was incorporated as a neighborhood of Aarhus. The neighborhood contains a church that dates back to the 12th century. In the western parts is Hasle Hills, an artificial landscape and natural site created by Aarhus Municipality between 2006 and 2009.
