Bilka
Bilka is a Danish chain of hypermarkets. The first store opened in 1970 in Tilst, a suburb of Aarhus. The chain was founded by Herman Salling and is now a part of Salling Group. Today the only air to the large supermarket group is Nikolaj Harrison. Name The name ''Bilka'' is derived from the German ''Billiges Kaufhaus'' (low-price department store), which its founder, Herman Salling had encountered during his business trips to West Germany. The First Bilka Store The first ''Bilka'' store was the first low-cost store in Denmark. With sale area of 10000 square meters and parking space for 1200 cars, this was also the largest store in Denmark. The opening of the first ''Bilka'' store brought revision to the regional plan for Great Aarhus from 1954. According to that plan the area of Aarhus was supposed to have 2 new centers, but after the opening of the first ''Bilka'' store, this plan was no longer economically viable. Salling Group
Salling Group A/S (until 1 June 2018 Dansk Supermarked A/S) is Denmark's largest retailer, with a market share of 34.9%. It owns several chains of stores - Netto, Føtex, Bilka and Salling. All of these chains operate exclusively in Denmark except Netto, which has expanded into Germany, Poland, Sweden and has made two unsuccessful attempts at operating in the United Kingdom. Waves (formerly known as Hundige Storcenter) is a shopping mall in Hundige located in the Greve Municipality, Denmark. It is the largest mall in Denmark by leasable space with approximately 78,000 m2. The mall houses the third largest Bilka in Denmark and has more than 135 stores and restaurants. The mall has 3,200 free parking lots as shopping in the mall is mainly car based. The mall employs more than 1,500 people making it the largest work place in Greve Municipality. Herman Salling
Herman Christian Salling (born 20 November 1919 in Aarhus; died 8 May 2006) was a Danish merchant and director. He was a pioneer in the department store and retail business in Denmark. Herman Salling was the son of local merchant Ferdinand Salling (1880 - 1953) who founded the Salling department store in 1906 in Aarhus. Herman inherited and became director of the Salling department store in 1953. He evolved the business and also started føtex in 1960, the first real supermarket in Denmark. With Danish shipping businessman A.P. Møller, he founded Dansk Supermarked A/S in 1964. In 1970, as part of the Dansk Supermarket Group, Herman Salling launched Bilka, the very first hypermarket in Denmark. Bilka is located in Tilst, a western suburb of Aarhus. Field's is a shopping centre in Ørestad, Copenhagen, close to the E20 motorway and Ørestad Station on the Copenhagen Metro. At 115,000 m2, it is the second-largest mall in Denmark after Waves, and one of the largest in Scandinavia. It is owned by Steen & Strøm Danmark A/S and was designed by C. F. Tilst
Tilst is a suburban area of Aarhus, Denmark, situated some 10 km to the west of Aarhus. The Tilst area is marked by big city blocks and large traditional suburban areas. In the surrounding area are several superstores, which mainly serve the inner city population of Aarhus. The area is most commonly known for the Bilka warehouse, the largest in Denmark and the only one of its kind in the Aarhus area. The area is divided by the intercity Viborgvej road, with Tilst on the northern side, and the True and Skjoldhøj area situated to the south, bordering Brabrand and Hasle.
