Tilly Van Der Made
Tilly van der Zwaard (18 January 1938 – 6 February 2019) was a middle distance runner from the Netherlands. At the 1962 European Athletics Championships in Belgrade she won a bronze medal in the 400 m event, behind Maria Itkina of the Soviet Union and Joy Grieveson of Great Britain. Van der Zwaard twice represented her native country in the 400 m event at the Summer Olympics, in 1964 and 1968. Her best achievement was sixth place in 1964. She was born Mathilda Catrina van der Zwaard in Leiden Leiden (; in English and archaic Dutch also Leyden) is a city and municipality in the province of South Holland, Netherlands. Leiden
Leiden (; in English and archaic Dutch also Leyden) is a city and municipality in the province of South Holland, Netherlands. Joy Grieveson
Elizabeth Joyce "Joy" Grieveson (born 31 October 1941) from Darlington, United Kingdom, is a retired track and field athlete. Athletics career She won the silver medal in the women's 400 metres at the 1962 European Athletics Championships in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, having taken a week's leave from work to compete. She came in behind Maria Itkina of the Soviet Union, and ahead of Tilly van der Made of the Netherlands. She represented England in the 220 and 880 yards, at the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth, Western Australia. She also represented Great Britain in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, and was one of the favourites, but a hamstring injury hampered her chances and she only reached the semi-final. She retired from athletics after her second Commonwealth Games where she competed in the 440 yards at the 1966 Commonwealth Games. The Nationaal Archief (NA) is the national archives of the Netherlands, located in The Hague. It houses collections for the central government, the province of South Holland, and the former County of Holland. There is also material from private institutions and individuals with an association to the Dutch government or the political or social history of the Netherlands. The ''Nationaal Archief'' holds the Archives of the Dutch East India Company from 1602–1811, which were, along with related records held by South Africa, India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia, inscribed on UNESCO's Memory of the World Programme Register in 2003 in recognition of their historical value. At the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, 36 athletics events were contested, 24 for men and 12 for women. There were a total number of 1031 participating athletes from 93 countries. These games were notable for a number of Olympic firsts and numerous world records.
