This is a list of municipalities (urban or rural communes), and arrondissements of Morocco, based on the 2004 census. In 2009 a new administrative division of Morocco was adopted, creating 13 new provinces: Berrechid, Driouch, Fquih Ben Salah, Guercif, Midelt, Ouezzane, Rehamna, Sidi Bennour, Sidi Ifni, Sidi Slimane, Tarfaya, Tinghir and Youssoufia. Many municipalities and communes below are now part of these new provinces. Ait Ourir
Ait Ourir is a town and municipality in Al Haouz Province, Marrakesh-Safi, Morocco. At the time of the 2004 census, the commune had a total population of 20,005 people living in 3767 households. The town lies on the northern bank of the Ourika River, by road to the northwest of Tighedouine and east of the city centre of Marrakesh. Landmarks The town, described by Footprint Travel Guides as "rather undistinguished", contains a number of important buildings, a hospital, cemetery and several schools such as College Moulay Rachid and Ecole Riyad. The souk of Ait Ourir is of importance to trade in Al Haouz province, with a large market trading agricultural produce, camels, sheep and other items here. A shop at the souk sells tagines cooked over kanounes (cauldrons). Regions Of Morocco
Regions are currently the highest administrative divisions in Morocco. Since 2015, Morocco officially administers 12 regions, including one (Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab) that lies completely within the disputed territory of Western Sahara and two (Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra and Guelmim-Oued Noun) that lie partially within it. The regions are subdivided into a total of 75 second-level administrative divisions, which are Prefectures and provinces of Morocco, prefectures and provinces. Marrakesh-Tensift-El Haouz ( ar, مراكش تانسيفت الحوز) was formerly one of the sixteen regions of Morocco from 1997 to 2015. It was situated in central Morocco. It covered an area of 31,160 km² and had a population of 3,576,673 (2014 census). The capital is Marrakesh. In 2015, the region annexed Safi and Youssoufia Provinces (both formerly from the Doukkala-Abda Region) to become the Region of Marrakesh-Safi. In Morocco, the 75 second-level administrative subdivisions are 13 prefectures and 62 provinces. They are subdivisions of the 12 regions of Morocco. Each prefecture or province is subdivided into arrondissements (only in prefectures of some metropolitan areas), municipalities (''communes'', sing. ''commune'') or urban municipalities (''communes urbaines'', sing. ''commune urbaine'') in other urban areas, and districts (''cercles'', sing. ''cercle'') in rural areas. Marrakesh
