Tickfaw
Tickfaw was founded in 1852 and is a village in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 694 at the 2010 census. Tickfaw is part of the Hammond Micropolitan Statistical Area. It was originally inhabited by Italian-American immigrants and continues to have a distinct Italian-American heritage. History Tickfaw is an Indian name which means "Rest Among the Pines." It derives from a contraction of the Choctaw words tiak "pine" and foha "rest" or "ease". The Village was incorporated in 1957 under the leadership of Joe Greco, who later became the first Mayor. Kim Mulkey
Kimberly Duane Mulkey (born May 17, 1962) is an American college basketball player and coach. She is the head coach for Louisiana State University's women's basketball team. A Pan-American gold medalist in 1983 and Olympic gold medalist in 1984, she became the first person in NCAA women's basketball history to win a national championship as a player, assistant coach, and head coach. She won three NCAA championships as the coach of Baylor in 2005, 2012, and 2019. Mulkey was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020 and was also inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Youth Kim Mulkey was one of the first girls in the US to play organized baseball with boys. Tangipahoa Parish (; French: ''Paroisse de Tangipahoa'') is a parish located in the southeast corner of the U.S. state of Louisiana. As of the 2010 census, the population was 121,097. The parish seat is Amite City, while the largest city is Hammond. Southeastern Louisiana University is located in Hammond. Lake Pontchartrain borders the southeast side of the parish. The name ''Tangipahoa'' comes from an Acolapissa word meaning "ear of corn" or "those who gather corn." The parish was organized in 1869 during Reconstruction. Area code 985 is the telephone area code for southeastern Louisiana, excluding the inner ring of the New Orleans area. The area code was created in 2001 when it was split off from area code 504. Area code 985 also used to include areas southeast of New Orleans. However, in 2007, these areas switched back to 504. These communities are on both sides of the Mississippi River in "lower" Plaquemines Parish, including Pointe à la Hache on the east bank, with Port Sulphur, Buras, and Boothville on the west bank. The area's local switching facilities were almost destroyed due to flooding from Hurricane Katrina. Since the nearest switching facilities were in New Orleans, it was decided to put these downriver communities back in 504. Women's Basketball Hall Of Fame
The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame honors those who have contributed to the sport of women's basketball. The Hall of Fame opened in 1999 in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA. It is the only facility of its kind dedicated to all levels of women's basketball. Robert E. Billiot (born November 1953) is an American politician who served as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives for the 83rd district from 2008 to 2020. Education Billot graduated from West Jefferson High School in Harvey, Louisiana and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Nicholls State University. Career Billiot served as the mayor of Westwego, Louisiana from 1990 to 2008. He was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in 2007 and assumed office in 2008.
