Tibet Military District
The Tibet Military District is a military district of the People's Liberation Army Ground Force. It was first established in 1952, possibly from elements previously part of the 18th Corps. In December 1968 it became part of the Chengdu Military Region. People's Liberation Army Ground Force
The People's Liberation Army Ground Force (PLAGF; ) is the land-based service branch of the People's Liberation Army and the largest and oldest branch of the entire Chinese armed forces. The PLAGF can trace its lineage from 1927 as the Chinese Red Army; however, it was not officially established until 1948. History In February 1949, the existing large number of armies and divisions were regularised into up to seventy armies of three divisions each. While some, such as the 1st Army, survived for over fifty years, a number were quickly amalgamated and disestablished in the early 1950s. It appears that twenty per cent or even more of the seventy new armies were disestablished up to 1953; in 1952 alone, the 3rd, 4th, 10th, 17th, 18th, and 19th Armies were disbanded. Wang Kai (born 1963)
Wang Kai (; born April 1963) is a lieutenant general ('' zhongjiang'') of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) serving as commander of the Tibet Military District, succeeding Wang Haijiang in March 2021. Biography Wang was born in Meishan County (now Meishan), Sichuan, in April 1963. During the 2008 Sichuan earthquake, Wang, the then 37th Division commander of the 13th Army, led the troops to the disaster area first. In 2009, he rose to become chief of staff of the 14th Army. In July 2013, he was made commander of the 13th Army. Wang Haijiang
Wang Haijiang (; born July 1963) is a general ('' Shangjiang'') of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), currently serving as commander of Western Theater Command since August 2021. He previously served as commander of Xinjiang Military District, and commander of Tibet Military District from 2016 to 2018. Biography Wang was born in Anyue County, Sichuan in July 1963. Xu Yong (general)
Xu Yong (; born April 1959) is a lieutenant general (''zhong jiang'') of the People's Liberation Army, who was Commander of the Tibet Military District from 2013 to 2019. Biography Xu Yong was born in 1959 in Baoji, Shaanxi Province. He holds a master's degree from PLA National Defence University. Xu began his career as a military scout, and fought in the Sino-Vietnamese War in 1979. He rose through the ranks to become battalion commander, division commander, corps-level chief of staff, and then commander of the 13th Group Army in 2008. He attained the rank of major general in 2007. Yang Jinshan
Yang Jinshan (; born 1954) is a disgraced general in the People's Liberation Army of China. He served as the Deputy Commander of Chengdu Military Region between July 2013 to October 2014, and Commander of Tibet Military District from December 2009 to July 2013. Yang is a former member of 18th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, but was expelled from the body in 2014. Dong Guishan (; born July 1946) is a retired lieutenant general in the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of the People's Republic of China, who served as commander of the PLA Tibet Military District from 2004 to 2008. Meng Jinxi
Meng Jinxi (; born September 1944) is a lieutenant general in the People's Liberation Army of China who served as commander of the Tibet Military District from 1996 to 2004. 18th Corps (People's Republic Of China)
The 18th Corps () was a military formation of the Chinese People's Liberation Army which existed from 1949 to 1950. The 18th Corps was activated in February 1949, and initially comprised the 52nd, 53rd and 54th Divisions. It was established at Henan Luyi County Wutai Temple on 18 February 1949. On January 6, 1950, the 18th CPC Central Committee and the Southwest Military Region ordered the 18th Army to enter Tibet, under the cooperation of the 14th Army and the Northwest Military Region.
