''Thyas coronata'' is a species of moth of the family Erebidae first described by Johan Christian Fabricius in 1775. It is found from the Indo-Australian tropics of southern China, Taiwan, Japan, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka to Micronesia and the Society Islands. Description The wingspan is about 82–96 mm. The head and thorax are a pale reddish brown. Abdomen orange, with black segments. Forewings irrorated (sprinkled) with dark specks. A short sub-basal dark line is present. There is an outwardly oblique slightly sinuous antemedial line and small round greyish orbicular can be seen. Renifrom large and chocolate coloured, ringed with grey or broken up into grey or chocolate grey-ringed spots. A slightly inwardly-oblique postmedial line and a pale sub-marginal line, which is slightly bent below the costa. Johan Christian Fabricius (7 January 1745 – 3 March 1808) was a Danish zoologist, specialising in "Insecta", which at that time included all arthropods: insects, arachnids, crustaceans and others. He was a student of Carl Linnaeus, and is considered one of the most important entomologists of the 18th century, having named nearly 10,000 species of animals, and established the basis for the modern insect classification. Ophiusina
The Ophiusini are a tribe of moths in the family Erebidae. Taxonomy The tribe is one of the most successful of the major radiations of the subfamily Erebinae. The tribe was previously classified as the subtribe Ophiusina of the subfamily Catocalinae of the family Noctuidae. Phylogenetic studies have shown that the Ophiusini are closely related to the tribe Poaphilini, and both these tribes are best placed in the subfamily Erebinae of the family Erebidae.
