''ThreeNews'' is a New Zealand television news bulletin produced by Stuff, airing on channel Three since 6 July 2024. It is the successor to '' Newshub Live at 6pm'', which ended the day prior. Format ''ThreeNews'' is broadcast for 60 minutes on weekdays and 30 minutes on weekends. Notable presenters include weeknight news presenter Samantha Hayes, weekend news presenter Laura Tupou, sports presenter Ollie Ritchie and weather presenter Heather Keats. History Background The recession of the 2020s and a decline in advertising revenue caused a drop in ''Newshub'''s revenue. Stuff Limited (previously Fairfax New Zealand) is a privately held news media company operating in New Zealand. It operates Stuff, the country's largest news website, and owns nine daily newspapers, including New Zealand's second and third-highest circulation daily newspapers, '' The Post'' and ''The Press'', and the highest circulation weekly, ''Sunday Star-Times''. ''Newshub'' (stylised as Newshub.) was a New Zealand news service that operated from 1989 to 2024 and served as the local news division of Warner Bros. Discovery New Zealand until its closure. The division, known as ''3 News'' until 2016, had produced news bulletins and current affairs programming for the television channel Three (TV channel), Three from its inception. It also operated a news website and on radio stations run by MediaWorks Radio, MediaWorks between 2016 and 2021. The Newshub brand was launched in February 2016 as part of the division's transition to digital journalism. MediaWorks sold Three and Newshub to US multimedia company Discovery, Inc., with the acquisition completed in December 2020. Three (), stylised as +HR=E, is a New Zealand nationwide television channel. Launched on 26 November 1989 as TV3, it was New Zealand's first private broadcasting, privately owned television channel. The channel currently broadcasts nationally (with regional advertising targeting four markets) in digital free-to-air form via the state-owned Kordia on terrestrial and satellite. Samantha Hayes (born 25 April 1984) is a New Zealand journalist and newsreader, best known for co-anchoring Three's flagship news programme Newshub Live at 6pm. Early life Hayes was born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, to a New Zealand father and a South African mother. The family relocated to Milton in Otago, New Zealand, when she was six months old. She has a younger sister and an older brother. She received her education at Tokomairiro High School. She began tertiary education at the University of Otago and finished her degree, a Bachelor of Arts in media studies and international relations, at Victoria University of Wellington in 2007.
