Newshub
''Newshub'' (stylised as ''Newshub.'') is a New Zealand news service that airs on the television channels Three and Eden, as well as on digital platforms. It formerly operated across radio stations run by MediaWorks Radio until December 2021. The Newshub brand replaced ''3 News'' service on the TV3 network and the Radio Live news service heard on MediaWorks Radio stations on 1 February 2016. In late 2020, MediaWorks sold Newshub to US multimedia company Discovery, Inc. (now Warner Bros. Discovery) The acquisition was completed on 1 December 2020. History MediaWorks MediaWorks launched Newshub on 1 February 2016 as a multi-platform news service to replace the former 3 News service on its television channel Three and the Radio Live news service. Discovery New Zealand
Warner Bros. Discovery New Zealand is a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery that operates several television channels in New Zealand. It operates five national free-to-air television channels, eight pay-TV channels on Sky and the Newshub service. It was formerly known as MediaWorks TV and operated as a subsidiary of MediaWorks New Zealand between 2004 to 2020. In 2019, MediaWorks announced that they were selling their television operations. In September 2020, Discovery, Inc. purchased MediaWorks TV with the acquisition being finalized on 1 December 2020. The subsidiary was subsequently rebranded as Discovery New Zealand. Samantha Hayes (born 25 April 1984) is a South African-born New Zealand journalist and newsreader. Early life and personal life Hayes was born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa to a New Zealand father and a South African mother. The family relocated to Milton, New Zealand, Milton in Otago, New Zealand when she was six months old. She has a sister and a brother. She received her education at Tokomairiro High School. She studied at the University of Otago and finished her degree, a Bachelor of Arts, Media & International Relations, at Victoria University of Wellington in 2007. Hayes has been a vegetarian since she was 11 years old for ethical reasons. She said: "I remember looking at new lambs on the farm and thinking I didn’t want to be responsible for them being killed". Radio Live (stylised as Radio LIVE) was a nationwide Auckland-based New Zealand talkback, news and sport radio network owned and operated by MediaWorks New Zealand. It was formed by the 2005 split of talk and racing network Radio Pacific into a dedicated talk network which prioritised breaking news coverage (Radio Live) and a talk network which broadcast live horse racing and greyhound racing commentaries which initially retained the Radio Pacific name before a rebrand to Bsport and finally LiveSport. Oriini Kaipara
Oriini Kaipara (born 1983) is a New Zealand Māori broadcaster, journalist and translator and interpreter of te reo Māori and English. Kaipara has worked for Mai FM, TVNZ 1, Māori Television, and Three. She currently co-hosts Three's weekly political current affairs show ''Newshub Nation.'' In 2019 Kaipara was the first person with a ''moko kauae'' tā moko facial tattoo to present mainstream television news. In 2021 she became the first such person to host a primetime news program on national television. Early life Kaipara was born in Whakatāne in 1983. Three (TV Channel)
Three ( mi, Toru), stylized as +HR=E, is a New Zealand nationwide television channel. Launched on 26 November 1989 as TV3, it was New Zealand's first private broadcasting, privately owned television channel. The channel currently broadcasts nationally (with regional advertising targeting four markets) in digital free-to-air form via the state-owned Kordia on terrestrial and satellite. Vodafone also carries the channel for their cable subscribers in Wellington and Christchurch. It previously broadcast nationally on analogue television until that was switched off on 1 December 2013.
