Thought Riot
Thought Riot was an American hardcore punk band from California's Central Valley. The band lyrics focused on progressive political ideas. The writings of philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche are cited and often paraphrased in the band's lyrics. History Prior to A-F Records signing Thought Riot was formed in June 1997, originally consisting of Marc riot (guitar/vocals), Bryan Jones (bass), and Ben Harrison ( drums). After playing a number of shows, Josh and Mike were added to the lineup. Josh added a second guitar and additional vocals, while Mike took over bass duties. Bryan shifted to vocals and Marc to guitar only. In 1998, Bryan left the band, and Marc reprised his role as lead vocalist while still playing guitar. This lineup would record a six-song demo entitled "Our Six Best Takes." Shortly after recording, Ben left the band, followed by Josh. Troubador (band)
A troubadour (, ; oc, trobador ) was a composer and performer of Old Occitan lyric poetry during the High Middle Ages (1100–1350). Since the word ''troubadour'' is etymologically masculine, a female troubadour is usually called a ''trobairitz''. The troubadour school or tradition began in the late 11th century in Occitania, but it subsequently spread to the Italian and Iberian Peninsulas. Under the influence of the troubadours, related movements sprang up throughout Europe: the Minnesang in Germany, ''trovadorismo'' in Galicia and Portugal, and that of the trouvères in northern France. Dante Alighieri in his ''De vulgari eloquentia'' defined the troubadour lyric as ''fictio rethorica musicaque poita'': rhetorical, musical, and poetical fiction. The Terror State
''The Terror State'' is the fifth studio album by Pittsburgh punk rock band Anti-Flag, released on October 21, 2003, on Fat Wreck Chords. The album's artwork was regarded as somewhat controversial (picturing lead vocalist Justin Sane's niece, Rachel, amongst rubble and holding an automatic handgun), and the band was forced to create an alternate version (which was simply all black with the Terror State logo centered) for sale in some larger chain stores, such as Wal-Mart. On the inside of the cardboard sleeve surrounding the CD case there is a stencil print of GW Bush with text stating "one term President". Produced by Tom Morello, ''The Terror State'' was hailed as Anti-Flag's most polished album to date. The album made #1 on KTUH's charts on the week of January 19, 2004. Strike Anywhere is an American punk rock band from Richmond, Virginia. Formed in 1999 after the demise of frontman Thomas Barnett's previous band, Inquisition, they took their name from the Inquisition song "Strike Anywhere". Their music is characterized by fast tempos, catchy melodies, and emotionally charged vocals delivered via shouting and singing. Pipedown
Pipedown was an American hardcore punk band from Northern California, United States, with radical leftist lyrics. Starting in Grass Valley, California in 1997, their lyrics are often reminiscent of eco-anarchism, especially since they recommended readings such as the Unabomber manifesto and ''Deep Ecology for the 21st Century'' (George Sessions) on their first album ''Enemies of Progress.'' In 2003, Pipedown released ''Mental Weaponry,'' again on A-F Records. Over the course of this group's lifetime, Pipedown took part in over five full U.S. tours and two European tours spanning eight countries; sharing stages with the bands: Anti-Flag, Thrice, The Bouncing Souls, Darkest Hour, The Lawrence Arms, Tsunami Bomb, etc. On July 13, 2005, A-F Records announced Pipedown's breakup.
