Thomastown Football Club are known as the Bears and are an Australian rules football club located 17 km north of Melbourne in the suburb of Thomastown, Victoria fielding teams in the Northern Football League (Australia), Northern Football League. Today they are in Division Two of the NFL, and currently hold four netball teams entered in the NFL. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. VAFA
The Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) is the largest senior community Australian rules football competition in Victoria. It consists of seven senior men's and women's divisions ranging from Premier to Division 4. In addition there are U19's sections and five Thirds sections, primarily made up of either clubs only able to field one team, or clubs from higher sections that can field a third team after their seniors and reserves. The league operates a double promotion and relegation system between sections with various rules dictating which section clubs can play in. The Northern League is a men's football league in north east England. Having been founded in 1889, it is the second-oldest football league in the world still in existence after the English Football League. It contains two divisions; Division One and Division Two. Alex Marcou
Alexander Marcou (born 6 July 1958) is a former Australian rules footballer. He played with Carlton and St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1980s. Marcou is a member of the Carlton Hall of Fame and represented Victoria at interstate football on three occasions. Marcou made his VFL debut for Carlton at the age of 20 in 1979, kicking 34 goals and finishing the year a premiership player. He was a rover and played in premiership winning sides again in 1981 and 1982. In 1987, his first season at St Kilda was a good one for Marcou and he was a fine contributor in a young team. Frustration returned in 1988 however, as more serious hamstring and calf injuries reappeared.
