John Thomas Surman (second ¼ 1883 – first ¼ 1948) was an English professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1900s and 1910s. He played at representative level for England and Yorkshire, and at club level for Bradford FC, Bradford Northern and Hull Kingston Rovers, as a or . Bradford is a city and the administrative centre of the City of Bradford district in West Yorkshire, England. The city is in the Pennines' eastern foothills on the banks of the Bradford Beck. 1911–12 Yorkshire Cup
The 1911–12 Yorkshire Cup was the seventh occasion on which the Yorkshire Cup competition, a Rugby league tournament, was held. This year saw a previous winner, Huddersfield, win the trophy by beating Hull Kingston Rovers by the score of 22-10 The match was played at Belle Vue, in the City of Wakefield, now in West Yorkshire. The attendance was 20,000 and receipts were £700. This was Huddersfield's third appearance in what would be seven appearances in eight consecutive finals between 1909 and 1919 (which included four successive victories and six in total.) Huddersfield Giants
Huddersfield Giants are an English professional rugby league club from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, the birthplace of rugby league, who play in the Super League competition. They play their home games at the John Smiths Stadium which is shared with Huddersfield Town F.C. Huddersfield is also one of the original twenty-two rugby clubs that formed the Northern Rugby Football Union in 1895, making them one of the world's first rugby league teams. The club itself was founded in 1864, making it the oldest rugby league club in the world. Headingley Rugby Stadium
Headingley Rugby Stadium shares the same site as Headingley Cricket Ground and is home to Leeds Rhinos. Headingley is the 5th largest rugby league stadium in England. 1905–06 Northern Rugby Football Union Season
The 1905–06 Northern Rugby Football Union season was the 11th season of rugby league football. Season summary Leigh won the Championship for the first time this season and Bradford their first Challenge Cup. The two divisions were combined into one competition, with Lancaster dropping out to reduce it to 31 teams. Clubs from the same county all played each other, and arranged inter-county matches as and when they could. Because not all clubs played the same number of matches positions were decided on percentages. Featherstone Rovers, who were an amateur team at this time knocked a professional side out of the Challenge Cup, when they beat Widnes 23-2 in the second round. There was no county league competition this season.
