Thomas Pullinger
Thomas Charles Willis Pullinger CBE OBE OBK JP (1867 – July 1945) was an English automobile engineer. He began his career working with bicycles before the first cars were built. After working for Sunbeam and Humber, he helped expand the Scottish works of Arrol-Johnston, where he developed structured apprenticeship programmes and an engineering college for women. Sunbeam Motor Car Company
Sunbeam Motor Car Company Limited was a British automobile manufacturer with its works at Moorfields in Blakenhall, a suburb of Wolverhampton in Staffordshire, now West Midlands. Its Sunbeam name had been registered by John Marston in 1888 for his bicycle manufacturing business. Sunbeam motor car manufacture began in 1901. The motor business was sold to a newly incorporated Sunbeam Motor Car Company Limited in 1905 to separate it from Marston's pedal bicycle business; Sunbeam motorcycles were not made until 1912. In-house designer Louis Coatalen had an enthusiasm for motor racing accumulated expertise with engines. Sunbeam manufactured their own aero engines during the First World War and 647 aircraft to the designs of other manufacturers. Gare De Lyon-Vaise
Lyon-Vaise station (French: ''Gare de Lyon-Vaise'') is a railway station in Lyon, located in the district of Vaise, in the 9th arrondissement. The station is on the historical Paris–Lyon–Marseille (PLM) main line; it is also served by Lyon Metro Line D of which it is the northwestern terminus. History From 10 July 1854 until the opening of the Saint-Irenée tunnel between Vaise and Perrache railway station on 10 October 1856, the station was the Lyon terminus of trains from Chalon-sur-Saône and Paris. Lyon-Vaise was destroyed during the bombings of 26 May 1944. It was provisionally rebuilt in wood, then a new station was opened in 1956. In 1997, a new multimodal space was built to facilitate connections between the train, metro and bus. Dorothée Pullinger
Dorothée Aurélie Marianne Pullinger, MBE (13 January 1894 – 28 January 1986) was a pioneering automobile engineer and businesswoman. Early life Born in Saint-Aubin-sur-Scie, Seine Inférieure, France, she was the eldest of the 11 children of engineer Thomas Charles Pullinger (1867–1945) and Aurélie Berenice, née Sitwell (1871–1956). She was educated at Loughborough High School after the family moved to the UK when she was eight. The family settled in Swinlees farm, just outside Dalry, Ayrshire, where she created a sketchbook of drawings and simple paintings of the area. In 1910, she began work as a draftsperson at the Paisley works of Arrol-Johnston, the oldest and largest Scottish car manufacturer at that time. Dalry () is a small town in the Garnock Valley in Ayrshire, Scotland. Drakemyre is a northern suburb. History Dalry (from gd, Dail Ruighe, 'the haugh at the slope') is a small settlement on the Rye Burn. Its history has signs of early inhabitants in the area; the remains of an ancient fort, made of three concentric round walls, can be found on the summit of Carwinning Hill to the North of Dalry, west of the B784 to Largs. William Beardmore, 1st Baron Invernairn DL (16 October 1856 – 9 April 1936), known as Sir William Beardmore, Bt, between 1914 and 1921, was a British industrialist, founding the eponymous William Beardmore and Company.
