Thomas Parry (Comptroller Of The Household)
Sir Thomas Parry (c. 1515 – 15 December 1560) was a Comptroller of the Household to the English Queen Elizabeth I. He was knighted by Elizabeth at her accession in 1558, and held the offices of royal steward, Cofferer, Privy Counsellor, Comptroller of the Household (appointed November 1558), Master of the Court of Wards and Liveries (appointed 26 April 1559), Member of Parliament for Wallingford (elected 1547, 1552, 1555), Hertfordshire (elected 5 January 1558–9), and Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire (appointed 1559). Career Parry's father was Henry Vaughan of Tretower Court, Breconshire, Wales whose father, Sir Thomas Vaughan, had been knighted and later beheaded by King Richard III. He was a friend and kinsman of William Cecil, Lord Burghley, which may have afforded him his introduction to the court of King Edward VI. Sir Thomas Parry (1541 – 30 May 1616) was an English people, English politician and diplomat during the Tudor period. He was the son of Thomas Parry (Comptroller of the Household), Sir Thomas Parry Senior of Welford Park in Berkshire, the Comptroller of the Household, Controller of the Royal Household, by his wife, Anne, the daughter of Sir William Reade of Boarstall in Buckinghamshire. He was educated at Winchester School (1558). He first entered Parliament in 1571 as member for Bridport (UK Parliament constituency), Bridport. He was appointed High Sheriff of Berkshire for 1575–76 and 1587–88 and made a deputy lieutenant for Berkshire in 1593. Sir Thomas Parry FBA (4 August 1904 – 22 April 1985) was a Welsh writer and academic. He was Professor of Welsh at the University College of North Wales, Bangor from 1947 to 1953, Librarian of the National Library of Wales from 1953 to 1958, Principal of the University College of Wales Aberystwyth from 1958 to 1969 and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales from 1961 to 1963 and 1967 to 1969. Thomas Parry (1768 – 14 August 1824) was a Welsh merchant based in India. He was instrumental in establishing a trading company in Madras, India. Parry joined John William Dare to establish Parry & Dare in 1819 and this later became EID Parry company whose building gives the name of Parry's Corner, a well-known central business district of Chennai. Early life Parry was the third son and seventh child of Edward Parry and Anne Vaughan of Leighton Hall near Welshpool. The Parrys traced their ancestry to Elystan Glodrudd and Edward of Leighton Hall was a wealthy squire. Thomas's father Edward died when Thomas was five years old and his early life is untraced but for his sailing to India at the age of 19. Thomas Parry (1794 – 16 March 1870) was a Welsh clergyman in the West Indies who rose to become Bishop of Barbados from 1842 to 1869. Background and education He was born on 27th November 1794 the fourth son of Edward Parry, a clergyman in North Wales, who at that time was rector of Llanferres, Denbighshire. Parry was educated at Oriel College, Oxford, matriculating in 1812 and graduating first-class in mathematics and second-class in classics four years later. He was appointed a Fellow of Balliol College, Oxford in 1818 and obtained a Master of Arts in the following year. He was made deacon in 1819 and ordained priest in 1820, both times by the Bishop of Oxford. Thomas Parry (23 February 1818 − 23 December 1879) was a British Liberal Party politician from Sleaford in Lincolnshire. He sat in the House of Commons for three short periods between 1865 and 1874. Early life Parry was born in 1818 (according to his tombstone, on 23 February), son of William Parry (1786–1876), of Lincoln, and his wife, Mary Stanley (1799–1868), daughter of Henry Stanley. Business He became an articled clerk to Charles Kirk the elder (1791–1847), architect, of Sleaford, responsible for many new buildings in the town in the 1830s and 1840s. The men became partners, their firm being called Kirk and Parry. In 1841, Parry married Kirk's daughter, Henrietta Kirk. Thomas Gambier Parry, J.P., D.L., (22 February 1816 – 28 September 1888) was a British artist and art collector. He is best remembered for his development of the Gambier Parry process of fresco painting, and for forming the significant collection of early Italian paintings and objects that his heirs gave to the Courtauld Institute of Art in London, where many are displayed in the Courtauld Gallery.
