Thomas Offenberg Backer
Thomas Offenberg Backer (27 September 1892 in Telemark Norway – 10 January 1987) was a Norway, Norwegian engineer. Early life Thomas Offenberg Backer was born at Mo in Telemark, Norway. He was the son of Hans Backer (1858–1940) and Johanne Offenberg (1859–1954). The father was a parish priest. His brother of Andreas Backer was secretary-general for the Norwegian Trekking Association. He was married in 1918 with Clara Martens (1895–1988). Career Backer graduated from the Norwegian Institute of Technology as sivilingeniør, siv.ing. in 1914. From 1948 to 1962 he served as director of the Norwegian Directorate of Public Roads. As a road director, Backer completed the restoration of war damaged bridges and roads resulting during the German occupation of Norway, Nazi occupation of Norway during World War II. Vestre Gravlund
Vestre Gravlund is a cemetery in the Frogner borough of Oslo, Norway. It is located next to the Borgen metro station. At , it is the largest cemetery in Norway. It was inaugurated in September 1902 and also contains a crematorium (''Vestre krematorium'') and chapel (''Gravkapellet''). The grave chapel was constructed in granite and clay stone and was designed by architect Alfred Christian Dahl (1857–1940). It was built in 1900 and consecrated in 1902. Karl Olsen (27 December 1910 – 21 February 1999) was a Norwegian civil servant. Early life He was born in Farsund, and graduated as siv.ing. from the Norwegian Institute of Technology. Career From 1962 to 1980 he served as director of the Norwegian Directorate of Public Roads. Before this he worked in the administration of Bærum municipality. From 1952 to 1956 he was president of the Norwegian Association of Civil Engineers, an organization now known as Tekna. Oppland
Oppland is a former county in Norway which existed from 1781 until its dissolution on 1 January 2020. The old Oppland county bordered the counties of Trøndelag, Møre og Romsdal, Sogn og Fjordane, Buskerud, Akershus, Oslo and Hedmark. The county administration was located in the town of Lillehammer. Merger On 1 January 2020, the neighboring counties of Oppland and Hedmark were merged to form the new Innlandet county. Both Oppland and Hedmark were the only landlocked counties of Norway, and the new Innlandet county is the only landlocked county in Norway. The two counties had historically been one county that was divided in 1781. Historically, the region was commonly known as "Opplandene". In 1781, the government split the area into two: Hedemarkens amt and Kristians amt (later renamed Hedmark and Oppland. In 2017, the government approved the merger of the two counties.
