Karl Olsen
Karl Olsen (27 December 1910 – 21 February 1999) was a Norwegian civil servant. Early life He was born in Farsund, and graduated as siv.ing. from the Norwegian Institute of Technology. Career From 1962 to 1980 he served as director of the Norwegian Directorate of Public Roads. Before this he worked in the administration of Bærum municipality. From 1952 to 1956 he was president of the Norwegian Association of Civil Engineers, an organization now known as Tekna. Private life He resided at Høvik Høvik is a suburban area in the municipality of Bærum, Viken, Norway, in the Oslo metropolitan area. Mainly a residential area, its population (2005) is 4,311. Farsund
is a municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Lister. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Farsund. Farsund is a coastal municipality in the far southwestern part of Norway, bordering Kvinesdal municipality in the north and Lyngdal in the north and east. The municipality is the 276th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Farsund is the 116th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 9,622. Eskild Jensen
Eskild Jensen (28 April 1925 – 1 April 2013) is a Norwegian civil servant and politician for the Labour Party. He was born in Vestre Aker as a son of executive Eskild Jensen Sr. (1876–1955) and teacher Elizabeth Kobro (1889–1985). In 1957 he married civil servant Inger Aarskog. He enrolled at Oslo Commerce School, but as the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany commenced in the same year, Jensen soon prioritized to work in the Norwegian resistance movement. He distributed an illegal newspaper compiled from BBC radio reports; listening to these was also illegal. He was caught by Gestapo in 1942, tortured, and imprisoned in the concentration camps Grini and from May 1943 to 1945 Sachsenhausen. After the war Jensen graduated in economics from the University of Oslo. In 1961 he was hired in the Ministry of Finance. Thomas Offenberg Backer
Thomas Offenberg Backer (27 September 1892 in Telemark Norway – 10 January 1987) was a Norway, Norwegian engineer. Early life Thomas Offenberg Backer was born at Mo in Telemark, Norway. He was the son of Hans Backer (1858–1940) and Johanne Offenberg (1859–1954). The father was a parish priest. His brother of Andreas Backer was secretary-general for the Norwegian Trekking Association. He was married in 1918 with Clara Martens (1895–1988). Career Backer graduated from the Norwegian Institute of Technology as sivilingeniør, siv.ing. in 1914. From 1948 to 1962 he served as director of the Norwegian Directorate of Public Roads. As a road director, Backer completed the restoration of war damaged bridges and roads resulting during the German occupation of Norway, Nazi occupation of Norway during World War II. Sivilingeniør (shortened siv.ing), not to be confused with civil engineer, is a legally protected engineering title awarded by technical universities in Norway. To qualify for the title, a student must follow a structured study programme in technology and natural sciences of 5 years duration (4.5 years before 2002) at a Norwegian university or university college. Previously it was also a degree in and of itself, though today it is the equivalent of a Master of Science or Master of Technology degree. Before 1992, it was considered by the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH) to be equivalent to a Master of Science degree. Although the name is cognate with the English term '' civil engineer'', the meanings do not correspond in modern usage. The degree was not awarded in 2002, when the study program's length was expanded by six months, instead the title Master of Technology was used. Høvik is a suburban area in the municipality of Bærum, Viken, Norway, in the Oslo metropolitan area. Mainly a residential area, its population (2005) is 4,311. It is normal to divide Høvik into two parts; Nedre (lower) and Øvre (upper). Høvik has a church, a small shopping area and a railway station, Høvik Station, served by Drammensbanen. Flytoget (Airport Express Train) does not stop at Høvik. Nearby is the Henie Onstad Kunstsenter. There are three schools in Høvik: Ramstad Skole, Høvik Verk Skole and Høvik Skole. There are also some important businesses with offices in Høvik, e.g. DNV GL. Høvik has beaches which can be crowded during the summer.
