''Thomas Kessler'' (born 25 September 1937 in Zurich) is a Swiss composer. He is a pioneer of electronic music Life Kessler studied literature at the Universities of Zurich and Paris, followed by composition studies with Heinz Friedrich Hartig, Ernst Pepping and Boris Blacher at the Hochschule für Musik Berlin. In 1965 he founded his own electronic studio and became a member of the Gruppe Neue Musik Berlin. A composer is a person who writes music. The term is especially used to indicate composers of Western classical music, or those who are composers by occupation. Many composers are, or were, also skilled performers of music. Etymology and Definition The term is descended from Latin, ''compōnō''; literally "one who puts together". Electronic music is a genre of music that employs electronic musical instruments, digital instruments, or circuitry-based music technology in its creation. Heinz Friedrich Hartig
Heinz Friedrich Hartig (September 10, 1907 in Kassel – September 16, 1969 in Berlin) was a German composer and harpsichordist. In 1948 he began teaching at the Berliner Hochschule für Musik. Seven years later, he took up a professorship there. He became acquainted with Boris Blacher, a composer with whom he collaborated extensively. As harpsichordist, Hartig made numerous recordings, mostly in the role of continuo player rather than soloist. His compositional output consists mainly of concertos, sonatas, songs, oratorios and choral works. He also gained a distinguished reputation as a pedagogue. Ernst Pepping (12 September 1901 – 1 February 1981) was a German composer of classical music and academic teacher. He is regarded as an important composer of Protestant sacred music in the 20th century. Pepping taught at the and the . Boris Blacher
Boris Blacher (30 January 1975) was a German composer and librettist. Life Blacher was born when his parents (of German-Estonian and Russian backgrounds) were living within a Russian-speaking community in the Manchurian town of Niuzhuang () (hence the use of the Julian calendar on his birth record). He spent his first years in China and in the Asian parts of Russia, and in 1919, he eventually came to live in Harbin. In 1922 he went to Berlin where he began to study first architecture, mathematics, and then music at the Berlin Hochschule fuer Musik. He found work arranging popular and film music. Two years later, he turned to music and studied composition with Friedrich Koch. His career was interrupted by National Socialism. Luc Ferrari
Luc Ferrari (February 5, 1929 – August 22, 2005) was a French composer of Italian heritage and a pioneer in musique concrète and electroacoustic music. He was a founding member of RTF's Groupe de Recherches Musicales (GRMC), working alongside composers such as Pierre Schaeffer and Pierre Henry. Biography Ferrari was born in Paris, and was trained in music at a very young age. He studied the piano under Alfred Cortot, musical analysis under Olivier Messiaen, and composition under Arthur Honegger. His first works were freely atonal. Vinko Globokar
Vinko Globokar (born 7 July 1934) is a French-Slovenian avant-garde composer and trombonist. Globokar's music uses unconventional and extended techniques, places great emphasis on spontaneity and creativity, and often relies on improvisation. His extensive output is largely unknown outside of experimental music circles. As a trombonist, he has premiered works by Luciano Berio, Mauricio Kagel, René Leibowitz, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Toru Takemitsu, as well as his own compositions. Biography Globokar was born in Anderny, Meurthe-et-Moselle, France. In 1947 he moved to Yugoslavia, where he attended DIC in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Bettina Skrzypczak (born 25 January 1963) is a Polish/Swiss composer. Biography Skrzypczak was born in Poznań, Poland. She studied piano at Bydgoszcz and music at the Academy of Music in Poznan. In 1985 she graduated with a degree in music theory, and in 1988 with a degree in composition, studying with Andrzej Koszewski. From 1984-88 she studied with Witold Lutoslawski, Luigi Nono, Henri Pousseur, and Iannis Xenakis in composition courses organised in Kazimierz by the Polish section of the ISCM. In 1988 she studied electronic music with Thomas Kessler and composition with Rudolf Kelterborn in Basel, Switzerland. René Wohlhauser
René Wohlhauser (born 24 March 1954) is a Swiss composer, pianist, singer, improviser, conductor and music teacher. Life Wohlhauser was born in Zurich. From 1975 to 1979 he studied counterpoint, harmony, music analysis, score reading, orchestration and composition with Thomas Kessler, Robert Suter, Jacques Wildberger and Jürg Wyttenbach at the Basle Music Academy, earning a diploma in music theory. He went on to study composition with Kazimierz Serocki, Mauricio Kagel, Herbert Brün and Heinz Holliger, and for several years studied with Klaus Huber and Brian Ferneyhough. The latter had a decisive influence on Wohlhauser's work. Wohlhauser currently teaches composition, improvisation and music theory at the Basle Music Academy.
