Thomas Francis Kelly (April 6, 1925 – January 26, 2016), professionally known as Tommy Kelly, was an American child actor. He played the title role in ''The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'' in 1938 based on Mark Twain's novel of the same name. Early life and career Kelly was born in the Bronx, the son of Nora and Michael Kelly, a fireman, in humble circumstances. He had twelve siblings. Kelly's grandparents, all four, were from Ireland. He began his acting career at the age of twelve when he was selected to play Tom Sawyer in the 1938 movie ''The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'', the first Technicolor adaption of Mark Twain's classic 1876 novel. Approximately 25,000 boys had auditioned for that role and it is said that famous producer David O. Selznick handpicked Kelly for the role. Despite Kelly's earning good critical reviews for his performance, the film was only a poor financial success. Tom Kelly, OBE, DL, is an Irish and UK media commentator, businessman and former vice chairman of the Social Democratic and Labour Party in Northern Ireland. The grandson of the IRA War of Independence veteran and Irish Labour activist Tom Kelly, he attended the Abbey Grammar School in Newry followed by the University of Ulster. He was political assistant to the former Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland and MP for Newry and Armagh, Seamus Mallon. With the backing of the United States-based National Democratic Institute for International Affairs Kelly set up the Social Democratic Group on behalf of the SDLP. Kelly was the communications director in many of the key SDLP electoral campaigns until 2001. Tommy Terrell Kelly (born December 27, 1980) is a former American football defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Mississippi State and was signed by the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2004. He played with the Raiders and subsequently a single season each with the New England Patriots and Cardinals before retiring prior to the 2015 season. He now lives in Jackson, Mississippi. Tom Kelly is a former Gaelic footballer from County Laois. His club is St Joseph's. He usually played at centre back for Laois and in 2003 won an All Stars Award and was part of the Laois team that won the Leinster Senior Football Championship title for the first time since 1946. Kelly twice travelled to Australia for the International Rules Series, where he was Ireland's player of the series in 2005. With St Joseph's, Kelly picked up two Laois Senior Football Championship medals. In January 2011, Kelly was forced to retire due to a neck injury he sustained the year before. Tommy Kelly was an Irish soccer player during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. A dynamic midfielder, he is quite simply a Bohemian F.C. legend, his career at Dalymount Park spanning 3 different decades. Thomas Kelly (1882–1959) was a rugby union international who represented England from 1906 to 1908. He also captained his country to a 19–0 victory over France at the Stade Colombes in Paris on 1 January 1908. Early life Thomas Kelly was born in 1882 in Tiverton, Devon. and educated at Blundell's School. Rugby union career Kelly played Lock for Exeter Rugby Club and is the only player from that team to have captained England. He also turned out for Devon County in 39 games between 1903 and 1910, including games against New Zealand, South Africa and Australia.
