Thomas K. Sanders
Thomas Koonce Sanders, Sr. (July 21, 1932 – December 11, 2011) was an American Contract bridge, bridge player from Nashville, Tennessee. He was married to Carol Sanders, a women's teams world champion player. Sanders was a graduate of Vanderbilt University. He won a single World Bridge Federation gold medal as USA in the Bermuda Bowl#1981 Port Chester, New York , 1981 Bermuda Bowl tournament. Tom and Carol Sanders were both inducted into the ACBL Hall of Fame in 2002. They were recipients of the von Zedtwitz Award; that is, were nominated for the Hall of Fame by a "Veterans Committee" of players out of the limelight for some time. History The event is contested for the Reisinger Trophy (the Chicago Trophy until 1965). It is a six-session open team-of-four event scored by board-a-match with two qualifying sessions, two semifinal sessions and two final sessions. It was contested as a four-session championship until 1966. The event began in 1929 as the North American Open Team Championship and the prize was the Chicago Trophy, donated by the Auction Bridge Club of Chicago. The Rockwell Mixed Pairs is a national bridge championship held regularly at the Spring American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) North American Bridge Championship (NABC). The Spingold is a knock-out team event that attracts the top contract bridge players in the world. The Mixed Board-a-Match Teams is a bridge competition held at the summer American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) North American Bridge Championship (NABC). From 2010 the event is officially the Freeman Mixed Board-a-Match Teams, as it is contested for the Richard Freeman Memorial Trophy, named for Richard Freeman (1933–2009).
