Thomas J. Hillery (born 1871)
Thomas J. Hillery (November 18, 1871 – January 14, 1920) was an American lawyer and politician from New Jersey. Life Hillery was born on November 18, 1871 in the Hibernia section of Rockaway Township, New Jersey, the son of miner John Hillery and Honora Sweeny. His parents were Irish immigrants who immigrated to America in 1861. The family moved to Boonton in 1895. Hillery attended public school in Hibernia until he was twelve, after which he spent the next two years in the Rockaway public school. After graduating from the latter school, he worked in the mercantile establishment of B. K. & G. W. Stickle for four years. In 1890, he entered the office of civil engineer Lewis Van Duyne and worked as an engineer for eight years. During that time, he studied law in the office of N. S. Kitchell. Hibernia is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located along County Route 513 (Green Pond Road) in Rockaway Township of Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The area is served as United States Postal Service ZIP Code 07842. The community takes its name from Hibernia, the classical name for Ireland. As of the 2000 United States census, the population for ZIP Code Tabulation Area 07842 was 93. The Hibernia mines, a series of iron mines worked from pre-Revolutionary times until 1916, are located here. Clarence Thomas (born June 23, 1948) is an American jurist who serves as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He was nominated by President George H. W. Bush to succeed Thurgood Marshall and has served since 1991. After Marshall, Thomas is the second African American to serve on the Court and its longest-serving member since Anthony Kennedy's retirement in 2018. Thomas was born in Pin Point, Georgia.
