Thomas Inkerman Thomson
Thomas Inkerman Thomson (March 21, 1855 – February 9, 1919) was a hardware merchant and political figure in Ontario, Canada. He represented Grey North in the House of Commons of Canada from 1903 to 1904 as a Conservative. He was born in Napanee, Canada West, the son of John Thomson and Annie Oswald, both natives of Ireland, and was educated in Uxbridge. In 1877, Thomson married Maggie Walden. Owen Sound
Owen Sound ( 2021 Census population 21,612) is a city in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. The county seat of Grey County, it is located at the mouths of the Pottawatomi and Sydenham Rivers on an inlet of Georgian Bay. The primary tourist attractions are the many waterfalls within a short drive of the town. History The area around the upper Great Lakes has been home to the Ojibwe people since prehistory. In 1815, William Fitzwilliam Owen surveyed the area and named the inlet after his older brother Admiral Edward Owen. The name of the area in Ojibwe language is ''Gchi-wiigwedong''. A settlement called "Sydenham" was established in 1840 or 1841 by Charles Rankin in an area that had been inhabited by First Nations people. John Telfer settled here at that time and others followed. By 1846, the population was 150 and a sawmill and gristmill were operating. The name Sydenham continued even as the community became the seat for Grey County in 1852. Edward Henry Horsey, M.D. (March 7, 1867 – July 23, 1902) was a physician, businessman and politician. Born in Ottawa, the son of Henry Hodge Horsey and Amey Ann Rose, Horsey was a graduate of Queen's University where he studied medicine. After working for several years as a physician, he joined the Sun Life Insurance Company becoming their manager for Asia. Grey North (federal Electoral District)
Grey North was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1968. It was located in the province of Ontario. It was created by the British North America Act of 1867, which divided the County of Grey into two ridings: Grey South and Grey North. The North Riding consisted of the Townships of Collingwood, Euphrasia, Holland, Saint-Vincent, Sydenham, Sullivan, Derby, and Keppel, Sarawak and Brooke, and the Town of Owen Sound. In 1872, the County of Grey was divided into three ridings when Grey East was created. The North Riding consisted of the Townships of Holland, Sullivan, Sydenham, Derby, Sarawak, Keppel and the Town of Owen Sound. Uxbridge is a township in the Regional Municipality of Durham in south-central Ontario, Canada. Communities The main centre in the township is the namesake community of Uxbridge.
