Thomas Erdbrink
Thomas Erdbrink (; born January 27, 1976) is a Dutch journalist who is the Northern Europe bureau chief for ''The New York Times'', covering Nordic countries and the Netherlands. He was from 2012 until 2019 the Tehran Bureau Chief for ''The New York Times''. Erdbrink was at the time one of the few Western reporters accredited for U.S. media in Iran. Erdbrink has a B.A. in journalism from HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht. From 2008 to 2012 he served as The Washington Post bureau chief in Tehran and was succeeded by Jason Rezaian. He is fluent in Dutch, English, Persian and German and regularly appears on European and American media outlets. Erdbrink's TV documentary series ''Onze man in Teheran'' (Our man in Tehran) won the 2015 Zilveren Nipkowschijf. In June 2019, ''The New York Times'' publicized that Iranian authorities had revoked Erdbrink's press credentials in late February 2019 and he has been unable to perform work in the country since then. ''De Wereld Draait Door'' (; English: "The world keeps on turning") also known by the acronym DWDD was an early-evening talk show on Dutch television, broadcast every weekday at 7:00 p.m. on NPO 1. It is the Netherlands' longest-running, regularly scheduled TV entertainment show and is also the program with the second-highest viewing figures on Dutch television, beaten only by the main evening news at 8.00 p.m. The show, created by Dieuwke Wynia and produced by BNNVARA, was discontinued after the last episode on 27 March 2020. Leiderdorp () is a town and municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland near the city of Leiden. It had a population of in . Newsha Tavakolian ( fa, نیوشا توکلیان; born 1981) is an Iranian photojournalist and documentary photographer. She has worked for ''Time'' magazine, ''The New York Times'', ''Le Figaro'', and ''National Geographic''. Jason Rezaian ( fa, جیسون رضائیان; born on March 16, 1976) is an Iranian-American journalist who served as Tehran news bureau, bureau chief for ''The Washington Post''. He was convicted of espionage in a closed-door trial in Iran in 2015. On July 22, 2014, Iranian authorities arrested Rezaian and his wife, Yeganeh Salehi, and took the couple into custody, accusing them of espionage. While Salehi – also a journalist – was released on October 6, Rezaian remained in custody at Evin Prison, a detention center in Tehran known for housing political prisoners and intellectuals. After nine months, it was made public on April 20, 2015, that Iranian authorities had indicted him on four charges, including espionage and "propaganda against the establishment". Zilveren Nipkowschijf (; "Silver Nipkow Disk", named for German television pioneer Paul Gottlieb Nipkow) is a Dutch television award that has been given out since 1961 by a selection of Dutch critics. The three founding critics were Henk Schaafsma of NRC Handelsblad, Hans Keller of Volkskrant, and Han G. Hoekstra of Het Parool. In 1975, Stichting Nipcow was founded and became the official foundation to award the Zilveren Nipkow. Tom Smeets of De Gelderlander has been the chairman of the foundation since the start.
