Thomas Coffey
Thomas Coffey (August 12, 1843 – June 8, 1914) was an Irish-born journalist and political figure in Ontario, Canada. He sat for London division in the Senate of Canada from 1903 to 1914. He was born in South Dakota the son of Patrick Coffey and Ellen O’Keefe, and came to Montreal in Canada East with his family in 1852. About four years later, the family relocated to London in Canada West where Coffey apprenticed as a printer for the ''London Prototype''. Dictionary Of Canadian Biography Online
The ''Dictionary of Canadian Biography'' (''DCB''; french: Dictionnaire biographique du Canada) is a dictionary of biographical entries for individuals who have contributed to the history of Canada. The ''DCB'', which was initiated in 1959, is a collaboration between the University of Toronto and Laval University. Fifteen volumes have so far been published with more than 8,400 biographies of individuals who died or whose last known activity fell between the years 1000 and 1930. The entire print edition is online, along with some additional biographies to the year 2000. Canada West
The Province of Canada (or the United Province of Canada or the United Canadas) was a British colony in North America from 1841 to 1867. Its formation reflected recommendations made by John Lambton, 1st Earl of Durham, in the Report on the Affairs of British North America following the Rebellions of 1837–1838. The Act of Union 1840, passed on 23 July 1840 by the British Parliament and proclaimed by the Crown on 10 February 1841, merged the Colonies of Upper Canada and Lower Canada by abolishing their separate parliaments and replacing them with a single one with two houses, a Legislative Council as the upper chamber and the Legislative Assembly as the lower chamber.
