Thomas Burgh (1754β1832)
Thomas Burgh (25 January 1754 β 1832) was an Irish politician who was MP for Harristown in the Irish House of Commons (1775β1776 and 1783β1790) and Athy (1776β1783). Biography Burgh was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. Burgh represented Harristown in the Irish House of Commons between 1775 and 1776, before sitting for Athy from 1776 to 1783. He then returned to representing Harristown between 1783 and 1790.E. M. Parliament Of Ireland
The Parliament of Ireland ( ga, Parlaimint na hΓireann) was the legislature of the Lordship of Ireland, and later the Kingdom of Ireland, from 1297 until 1800. It was modelled on the Parliament of England and from 1537 comprised two chambers: the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The Lords were members of the Irish peerage (βlords temporalβ) and bishops (β lords spiritualβ; after the Reformation, Church of Ireland bishops). The Commons was directly elected, albeit on a very restricted franchise. The House of Burgh or Burke (; ; ; ga, de BΓΊrca; la, de Burgo) was an ancient Anglo-Norman and later Hiberno-Norman aristocratic dynasty (with the Anglo-Irish branches later adopting the surname Burke and its variants) who held the earldoms of Kent, Ulster, Clanricarde, and Mayo at various times, provided one Queen Consort of Scotland, and played a prominent role in the Norman invasion of Ireland. Lord Edward FitzGerald (15 October 1763 β 4 June 1798) was an Irish aristocrat who abandoned his prospects as a distinguished veteran of British service in the American War of Independence, and as an Irish Parliamentarian, to embrace the cause of an independent Irish republic. Unable to reconcile with Ireland's Protestant Ascendancy or with the Kingdom's English-appointed administration, he sought inspiration in revolutionary France where, in 1792, he met and befriended Thomas Paine. From 1796 he became a leading proponent within the Society of United Irishmen of a French-assisted insurrection. William de Burgh (; ; 1741 β 1808) was a prominent Anglo-Irish politician and theological writer who was a Member of Parliament for Athy (1769β76), a supporter of William Wilberforce, and an active campaigner for the abolition of slavery.
