Thomas Bond (American Physician)
Thomas Bond (May 2, 1713 – March 26, 1784) was an American physician and surgeon. In 1751 he co-founded the Pennsylvania Hospital, the first medical facility in the American colonies, with Benjamin Franklin, and also volunteered his services there as both physician and teacher. Education and professional life Bond was born in the United Kingdom, the third of five sons of Richard Bond and Elizabeth Chew (née Benson). The family moved to Philadelphia while Thomas was still a young man. He began his medical training in Annapolis but traveled to Paris and England in 1738 to complete it. He returned to Philadelphia in 1739, and two years later was made Port Inspector for Contagious Diseases in that city. In 1743, he helped his long-time friend Benjamin Franklin establish the American Philosophical Society. Thomas Bond (topographer)
Thomas Bond (1765–1837) was a British topographer, born at Looe, Cornwall. He was the son of Thomas Bond, JP, and his wife Philippa (whose father, John Chubb was said to be the first to discover fossils in Cornwall). Biography Bond was a solicitor, and had extensive legal knowledge. In 1789 he was appointed town clerk of East Looe, and also (a separate office) town clerk of West Looe, the same year that his father was elected Mayor of East Looe. In 1823, while still in office, he published ''Topographical and Historical Sketches of the Boroughs of East and West Looe, in the County of Cornwall, with an account of the Natural and Artificial Curiosities and Pictorial Scenery of the Neighbourhood'', eight plates and several woodcuts, London, 1823, 8vo, pp. 308. This work, written as a "labour of love", describes seaside places near Plymouth, which were popular resorts in summer for health and recreation. Thomas Bond Walker
Thomas Bond Walker (1861 London - 1933) was an Irish painter. Walker moved to Belfast in the 1880s and started exhibiting with the ''Belfast Art Society''. According to the 1911 Census of Ireland, Tom Bond Walker, a widower by this time, and his only child, David Bond Walker (b. 1892) were residing at Rushfield Avenue, in the upper Ormeau Road area of south Belfast. Tom is specified as a ‘Portrait Painter.’ To augment his income he tutored private pupils, one of whom was Paul Henry. Henry recalled Walker as ''"a shy, retiring, ineffectual little man with a genuine enthusiasm for teaching"''. Tommy Bond
Thomas Ross Bond (September 16, 1926 – September 24, 2005) was an American actor, director, producer and writer. He was best known for his work as a child actor for two nonconsecutive periods on ''Our Gang'' (''Little Rascals'') comedies (first as "Tommy" and later as "Butch"). Also, he is noted for being the first actor to appear onscreen as "Superman's pal" Jimmy Olsen, having portrayed the character in the film serials ''Superman'' (1948) and ''Atom Man vs. Superman'' (1950). Tommy Bond (baseball)
Thomas Henry Bond (April 2, 1856 – January 24, 1941) was a Major League Baseball player who was a star pitcher and a right fielder a total of ten seasons. A native of Granard, Ireland, he is the first man born in Ireland to play Major League Baseball. Bond was also the last survivor of the National League's first season (1876). Early life Tommy Bond was born on April 2, 1856, in Granard, Ireland, to an English father and Irish mother. The family migrated to Brooklyn, New York, in 1862, and Tommy played amateur and semiprofessional baseball there in the early 1870s. Sir Thomas Bond, 1st Baronet (–1685) was an English landowner and Comptroller of the household of Queen Henrietta Maria. Biography The son of Dr. Thomas Bond (1580–1662), by his marriage to Catherine, daughter of John Osbaldeston, Bond was born about 1620 at Peckham. The exact dates of his birth, death and marriage are unknown. On 9 October 1658, before the Restoration of the monarchy in 1660, Bond was created by King Charles II a Baronet in the Baronetage of England. He also became Comptroller of the household of Queen Henrietta Maria, the mother of Charles II, an appointment which it was suggested he had obtained by the payment of one thousand pistoles, a very large sum, to Henry Jermyn, a favourite of the Queen who had recently been created Earl of St Albans. There have been two baronetcies created for persons with the surname Bond, one in the Baronetage of England and the other in the Baronetage of Ireland. Both creations are extinct. The Bond Baronetcy, of Peckham in the County of Surrey, was created in the Baronetage of England on 9 October 1658 for Thomas Bond, Comptroller of the Household of Queen Henrietta Maria. The 2nd Baronet represented Portarlington in the Irish House of Commons. The title became extinct on the death of the fourth Baronet in 1767.
