Thomas Bayley (3 June 1846 – 11 Mar 1906) was a Liberal Party politician in England who served as a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1892 to 1906. He unsuccessfully contested the 1885 general election in Barkston Ash, and at the 1886 election he stood in Chesterfield, where he was narrowly beaten by the sitting Liberal Unionist The Liberal Unionist Party was a British political party that was formed in 1886 by a faction that broke away from the Liberal Party. Thomas Bayley was an English academic. Bayley was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford, of which college he was a Fellow from 1664 to 1689. He was Magdalen's President from 1703 until his death on 15 August 1706. He held livings at Fordham and Slimbridge Slimbridge is a village and civil parish near Dursley in Gloucestershire, England. Thomas Butterworth Bayley
Thomas Butterworth Bayley (1744–1802) was an English magistrate, agriculturist and philanthropist. Background He was from an old Lancashire family, and his mother was one of the Dukinfields of Dukinfield, Cheshire. Shortly after completing his education at the University of Edinburgh, he was chosen a justice of the peace for the county palatine of Lancaster. The reputation he acquired by led to his being appointed a few years afterwards perpetual chairman of the quarter sessions. He was appointed High Sheriff of Lancashire for 1768. Magistracy Principally by his efforts, an improved gaol and penitentiary-house for Manchester was erected in 1787. In his honour, it was named the New Bayley. The building was pulled down in 1873. After improvements introduced in its construction, and in that of the county gaol at Lancaster, Bayley was consulted in regard to the erection and improvement of prisons throughout the country. Thomas Bayley Potter DL, JP (29 November 1817 – 6 November 1898) was an English merchant in Manchester and Liberal Party politician. Early life Born in Polefield, Lancashire, he was the second son of Sir Thomas Potter and his wife Esther Bayley, daughter of Thomas Bayley, and younger brother of Sir John Potter. Potter received his early education in George Street, Manchester, then at Lant Carpenter's school in Bristol. He subsequently attended Rugby School under Thomas Arnold and then University College London. In business On graduating, Bayley went into the family business in Manchester. His father died in 1845, at Buile Hill, his home. His elder brother John, knighted in 1851, took over most of his father's role; the firm then traded as Potter & Norris. Thomas became the major partner in it when his brother Sir John died in 1858.
