This Mourning
"This Mourning" is the lead single from Canadian band Chalk Circle's first full-length album, ''Mending Wall''. It was released on Duke Street Records in 1987. The song itself deals with the nuclear threat of annihilation that was very much part of everyday life in the 1980s. The 12" features two non-album b-sides that were later re-released on the CD issue of ''The Great Lake'' EP in 1988. Chalk Circle was a Canadian alternative rock band formed in 1982 in Newcastle, Ontario. The band originally consisted of lead singer and guitarist Chris Tait, bassist Brad Hopkins, keyboardist Tad Winklarz and drummer Derrick Murphy. History Formed in Newcastle, Ontario, Hopkins and Tait were paired with Terry Miller and Stani Veselinovic in 1982 as The Casualties. The band briefly changed its name to The Reactors and then to New Addition in 1984, and finally settled on the name Chalk Circle, taken from Bertolt Brecht's play ''The Caucasian Chalk Circle''. Mending Wall (album)
''Mending Wall'' is the first album by the Canadian band Chalk Circle (Canadian band), Chalk Circle, released in 1987 on Duke Street Records. The band supported the album by touring with Crowded House. ''Mending Wall'' sold more than 50,000 copies before the end of 1987. A reissue of the album included a cover of T-Rex's "20th Century Boy", which was released as a single. The subsequent reissue of ''The Great Lake'' EP, in 1988, also included the track as one of the bonus cuts. Production The album was named after a Robert Frost Mending Wall, poem. It was produced by Chris Wardman. "This Mourning" deals with nuclear annihilation, while "N.I.M.B.Y" (Not In My Back Yard) is about environmental issues. Chris Tait is a Canadian singer–songwriter and producer, best known as the lead singer and guitarist for the rock band Chalk Circle and later the group Big Faith. Music career Chalk Circle Tait grew up in Newcastle, Ontario and his first band was called "The Casualties". After a few years in various bands he formed the group Chalk Circle (named after Bertolt Brecht's play ''The Caucasian Chalk Circle'') with Brad Hopkins on bass and Derrick Murphy on drums. Chris Wardman
Chris Wardman is a Canadian music producer, musician and songwriter. Wardman was a founding member of Blue Peter, and was their lead guitarist and main contributing songwriter. Wardman was also a member of Breeding Ground in the late 1980s. Wardman has been actively producing albums for many Canadian acts, including Chalk Circle, Leslie Spit Treeo, Randy Bachman and Emm Gryner. Wardman produced two albums for Art Bergmann, including '' Sexual Roulette'' in 1990. Meryn Cadell's most recent new release, 1997's ''6 Blocks'', was produced by Wardman, for which he hired, among others, former bandmate Jason Sniderman, and he performed on the album as well. "20th Century Boy" is a song by T. Rex, written by Marc Bolan, released as a stand-alone single on 2 March 1973. It entered in the UK Singles Chart at number 3, on 10 March 1973 and peaked three weeks in a row at that position. It stayed a total of nine weeks in the UK Chart. "20th Century Boy" was not featured on the album ''Tanx'', released at the same time in early March. It was later added as a bonus track in the reissues of ''Tanx'' from year 1985 and on all the following versions released since. ''The Great Lake'' is the debut EP by Chalk Circle released in 1986. The original release of the EP only featured six tracks. It was later re-released with three additional tracks on CD. The EP contained two singles: "April Fool", a Top 10 hit in Canada, with its U2-like guitar chords, and "Me, Myself and I" also a Top 10 Canadian hit. The EP's back photo (and the CD's front) was taken along Lake Shore Boulevard in Toronto on the shores of Lake Ontario, which is presumably also the subject of the album's title. A-side And B-side
The A-side and B-side are the two sides of phonograph records and cassettes; these terms have often been printed on the labels of two-sided music recordings. The A-side usually features a recording that its artist, producer, or record company intends to be the initial focus of promotional efforts and radio airplay and hopefully become a hit record. The B-side (or "flip-side") is a secondary recording that typically receives less attention, although some B-sides have been as successful as, or more so than, their A-sides.
